Job description

Summary

The Sustainability Manager monitors Emmi Roth's environmental impact and advocates for ways to improve it. They communicate and coordinate with management, shareholders, customers, and employees to address sustainability issues, and enact or oversee the Emmi Group corporate sustainability strategy for Emmi Roth.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and organize the Emmi Roth Green Team toward meeting Emmi Group sustainability goals.
  • Develop or execute strategies to address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, recycling, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design.
  • Write reports detailing results of evaluations and present them to management, along with recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of sustainability programs.
  • Reports monthly environmental KPIs internally and maintains a database for sharing with customers and other audit and survey requests (EcoVadis & SupplyShift).
  • Evaluate and create proposals for sustainability projects, considering factors such as cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and integration with other initiatives.
  • Network with and support other Emmi Group members with research, best practices, new technology, and program strategy.
  • Work closely with the marketing and PR team to develop internal and external messaging strategies (projects, events, reports, presentations, etc).
  • Member of Division Americas Sustainability Team.
  • Research environmental sustainability issues, concerns, regulations, and stakeholder interests.
  • Network with other companies and sustainability professionals to establish best practices and explore synergies.
  • Create and maintain sustainability program documents.
  • Explore and establish a plan for certifications and product labeling.
  • Submit projects to suitable sustainability awards programs.
  • Ensure company's compliance with all state and federal environmental statutes and regulations.
  • Support education program on sustainability. Develop training to various employee and management groups across regions on big-picture environmental awareness, environmental development guidelines, customer and vendor environmental scorecards, environmental metrics and sustainability initiatives.
  • Attends staff and department meetings.
  • May be required to work overtime if deemed necessary with weekend work.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Engineering or related discipline providing technical expertise in sustainability (Master’s would be an asset)
  • Professional experience working to improve the environmental footprint of a business or other institution (at minimum an internship)
  • Familiarity with carbon credits, carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment tools
  • Ability to lead through influencing within an organization through collaboration rather than the exercise of line authority
  • Broad knowledge of environmental issues related to climate change, water quality, environmental health, waste management, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and food production, with significant depth in one or more areas
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work effectively, succinctly and harmoniously with cross-functional teams and internal and external clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and manage timelines, along with overall project management experience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize under pressure within established department guidelines
  • Detail-oriented nature
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to frequently travel locally to manufacturing sites, minimum of 30% travel
  • Passport required and valid driver’s license
  • Experience with agricultural supply chain sustainability would be an asset
