POSITION SUMMARY
The Sustainability Manager will support the resort in our commitment to sustainable business and operations. The Sustainability Manager will be a self-starting and results-driven team member and will work closely with operational departments to monitor, track, report and execute the goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy & fuels consumption. This manager will represent Stratton in external forums as spokesperson, advocate positions, and create networks of influence and partnerships and influence the resort operation in a way to attain environmental certification.
The Sustainability Manager will use a variety of research and accounting methods to analyze, report and validate recommendations for sustainability projects and programs. The manager will also liaison with Alterra's Sustainability Division as Stratton Mountain Resort's representative in the enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives.
This is a full-time year-round benefit eligible position. The compensation range for this position is $53,000 - $63,000 per year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Performs statistical analysis of all sustainability data (waste, energy, carbon, transportation, food, procurement, etc.)
  • Researches, collects, and analyzes data from a variety of sources internal and external
  • Writes reports and policy memos describing findings, recommendations, and overall environmental impacts
  • Identifies areas for improvement, develops recommendations for follow-up action and research potential resources
  • Supports outreach efforts to internal and external stakeholders including regional, provincial, federal governments, regarding general sustainability information including waste reduction, GHG reduction and overall sustainability progress
  • Monitors energy consumption and works with operational departments in developing and implementing conservation measures. Coordinates with operational departments in the implementation of sustainability programs or projects
  • Prepares an annual utility and sustainability management budget, and monitors sustainability KPIs, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling
  • Influences and manages projects across the resort, motivating teams without organizational chart authority

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Finance, Resort Management or other related degree required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with financial data and applied strategy

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications
  • Strategic thinking, planning, and coordination
  • Ability to take initiate and follow through with short- and long-term assignments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects including timelines and key deliverables
  • Self0directed with the ability to work well alone and in teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to independently compose broad correspondence
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the company with excellent interpersonal skills, including an approachable, position and helpful demeanor

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional offsite travel may be required, less than 5% of time
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
80% of time spent in office or meeting room environment.
Up to 15% of time spent in outdoor or in other resort facilities
Less than 5% of time spent traveling by car, air or other means to offsite locations, meetings or educational settings.
Office Environment:
  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

Mountain Environment:
  • A secondary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
  • Strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
  • Potential xposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
