Job Description:
Maryland Environmental Service has openings for a Survey Technician Trainee and Survey Technician to work within the Environmental Dredging and Restoration Division supporting the Maryland Port Administration Dredged Material Containment Facilities and Marine Terminals, other State agencies, and local municipalities. The positions will provide support in performing surveys under the direction of the surveying staff to investigate land surfaces and provide accurate locations of lines, angles, points, areas, and elevations. The positions will primarily assist with field data collection and provide support in performing land and hydrographic surveys, construction stakeout, and other survey related field and office operations and applications.
These positions will split their time between our Headquarters Facility in Millersville, MD, our Masonville, Cox Creek, and Poplar Island Dredged Material Containment Facilities located in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, and Talbot County in addition to other various sites throughout the State of Maryland.
Estimated Pay Range:
Survey Technician Trainee: $36,207.19 - $41,000
Survey Technician: $39,827.51 - $47,424

Minimum Requirements:
Survey Technician Trainee Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard high school or GED plus one year of experience in the area of design, construction, engineering, surveying, computerized drafting, environmental services or maintenance. Associate's degree in Survey, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Geo-technical or other generally recognized field of engineering or survey from an accredited college or university or certification by the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) as a Certified Survey Technician may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Survey Technician Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard high school or GED plus two years of experience in the area of design, construction, engineering, surveying, computerized drafting, environmental services or maintenance. A Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT), Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) certificate, or an Associate's degree in Survey, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Geo-technical or other generally recognized field of engineering or survey from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Certification by the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) as a Certified Survey Technician may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
General Qualifications: Must be able to pass a standard physical exam, be able to lift 50lbs, and have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred applicants will have a basic understanding of GPS and conventional survey equipment, be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and be able to assist in compiling data for technical reports, correspondence, or other documents.
