Pay Schedule I, Grade 28, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.
A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Engineering and Construction Division, Surveys Division.

Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, performs complex and responsible professional Land Surveying duties in support of Land Surveying crews, office staff and/or other county agencies.
  • Performs various work in the completion of Land Survey projects, including AutoCAD drafting and reviewing plans, topographic, boundary, and construction surveys.
  • Reviews and coordinates the work of in-house staff and consultants.
  • Coordinates project schedules and deadlines.
  • Investigates problems and assists with the design of improvements for public works projects.
  • Participates in meetings with professional surveyors, engineers, architects and consulting agencies.
  • Advises property owners, builders, developers, attorneys and others concerning Land Surveying practices and the Maryland Minimum Standards of Practice for Land Surveyors requirements.
  • Coordinates field changes with surveyors, engineers, architects and building inspectors.
  • Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans and projects.
  • Acts as the lead CAD technician and instructs the other CAD technicians on the use of the software.
  • Develops standards and procedures for topographic survey processing.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of surveying technology, procedures and software.
  • Participates in recommendations for training, purchases and upgrades.
  • Coordinates the equipment maintenance for both in-house routine adjustments and special repairs by vendors.
  • Assists with the presentation of programs and projects and performs equipment demonstrations.
  • Interprets deeds, plats, construction plans and fieldwork provided by survey crews.
  • Prepares daily work assignments for survey field crews and reviews scope of survey tasks.
  • Interprets, process and plots: boundary, topographic, stakeout and other data obtained by field survey parties.
  • Plots property outlines and mosaics from drawings and deed descriptions.
  • Makes field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Checks field notes and files for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, and records as necessary.

Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.
Plus
Eight years' subprofessional engineering experience.
(Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required experience.)

Salary
Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
