Job Summary: The Surgical Services Nurse plays a crucial role in the operating room, assisting surgical teams in delivering safe and effective patient care. The nurse is responsible for pre-operative and post-operative patient care, ensuring that the surgical process runs smoothly and patients receive optimal care throughout their surgical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre-operative Care:
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and interviews with patients.
- Review patient medical histories and ensure all necessary tests and preparations are completed.
- Educate patients on the surgical process, address concerns, and obtain informed consent.
Intra-operative Assistance:
- Collaborate with the surgical team to prepare the operating room for procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and other pre-operative tasks.
- Maintain a sterile field during surgery and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
Post-operative Care:
- Monitor patients in the recovery room and provide post-anesthesia care.
- Assess and manage pain levels, administer medications as prescribed.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth transition to the post-operative phase.
Patient Advocacy:
- Advocate for patient safety and adherence to best practices in surgical care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing emotional support.
Documentation:
- Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional guidelines for record-keeping.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in [State].
