Job Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer works with the Global Supply Chain and Global Engineering Departments in the assessment, and development of the strategic global supply chain. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for the systematic management of Supplier Quality through the implementation of the Supplier Quality Program/Process. The Supplier Quality Engineer provides strong, demonstrated leadership to quickly manage supplier related issues and drive continual improvements in global supplier performance.  

 

• Review engineering and manufacturing specifications to liaise between product engineers and vendors.
• Leads, or participates in, global cross functional supplier validation audits in the assessment of new or existing suppliers Quality Management Systems.
• Assist in the Global Supply Chain approval process by assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.
• Conduct onsite supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions taken by suppliers to address known quality issues.
• Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with suppliers on process improvements.
• Consolidate and evaluate supplier performance data to identify Global Supplier performance.
• Support and lead process improvement initiatives at suppliers.
• Participate in cross functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products.
• Collaborates with quality control personnel, in plants worldwide, to address defective supplier material or parts and ensures the proper corrective and preventive actions are put in place.
• Generates comprehensive quality assessment reports for critical global suppliers.
• Drive the escalation of unresolved Supplier Quality issues to successfully overcome.
• Collaborates with cross functional teams in the implementation of improvements in support of Manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives worldwide.
• Responsible for the proper use of the appropriate quality tools and methods, such as DOE, RCCA, 8D, MSA, FAI, sampling plans, process capability analysis, FTA and SPC to help resolve Supplier Quality issues in an efficient and effective manner.

 

Qualifications

II. Basic Qualifications 

A.    Education 
•    Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified from start) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (DTEM) or related discipline from an accredited institution.

B.    Experience 
•    A minimum of 3+ years Supplier Quality Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (automotive, heavy equipment or heavy custom “make to order” industries).
•    A minimum of 1 year of Global supplier experience.

C.        Other Requirements 
•    Must have strong knowledge of ISO 9001
•    Must have strong knowledge of welding
•    Must have strong data analytics and reporting skills
•    Must have strong mechanical knowledge 
•    Ability to travel globally

D.    Interpersonal Skills
•    Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
•    Ability to collaboratively lead teams and work in a diverse cross functional global environment

E.    Technical Skills
•    Computer skills – Proficient with MS Office, ERP systems, Data analytics
•    Ability to read, analyze, communicate, and interpret technical data/drawings

F.    Other Skills
•    Ability to effectively plan and organize
•    Strong judgment skills – must be able to make decisions with little guidance.

    G.     Travel
•    5%-25% domestic and international 

III.    Preferred Qualifications
  
A.    Preferred Certifications
•    CQE certification 
•    Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher
