How Do I Qualify for this Position?

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.
Basic Requirements:
Education:
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level.
OR
Experience:
You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Attention to detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

AND
Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

  • Experience planning, organizing and implementing highly complex, integrated and state-of-the-art file servers in a centrally located server farm of local area and wide areas networks.
  • Experience developing, designing, installation and configuring of complex computer systems, network and communications hardware and software.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing or coordinating the troubleshooting and repair of nationwide area network and local area network equipment, computer software, IBM 3278 emulators and IBM 3174 communications controllers, communications processors, file servers and micro/mini computers.
  • Knowledge of mainframe hardware, operating systems and applications to install and maintain 3270 SNA gateways.

AND
Selective Placement Factor:

Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Placement Factor. In the event you do not possess the Selective Placement Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position.

  • Applicants must have technical experience, within the last twelve months, to manage a network operation system for the following: SUSE Linux 10 or higher; Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2); Novell eDirectory version 8.8 or higher; HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA)and or 3Par Storage Area Network (SAN) Management; Microsoft Server 2008 R2 or higher Hyper-V Virtualization; Microsoft SQL Database; and configuration experience with HP C300/C7000 chassis and blade servers or higher.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Experience that would not normally be part of the Federal employee's position is creditable when documented by satisfactory evidence (e.g., a memorandum from the manager, Human Resource Manager, SF-52, etc.).
