Summary
This position is located in USCIS Field Operations Directorate, Office of Field Operations, District 44, San Bernardino CA Field Office.
As an Supervisory Immigration Services Assistant (SISA), you will provide technical and administrative support to subordinate staff to ensure compliance with USCIS procedures, policies and regulations.
This job is open to

Duties
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of a clerical support team in immigration records, adjudication, and mail operations for a USCIS field office.
  • Provide administrative supervision of clerical functions supporting customer service, preparing file records, contracting services, preliminary processing of case files, and maintaining data information in a variety of immigration management systems.
  • Provide facility management support for the mailroom by serving as an expert in mail operations.
  • Monitor and adjust daily work of subordinates to meet uncontrolled priorities and requirements from the field office and with other neighboring DHS components.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 03/01/2024.
Time in Grade does not apply to Delegated Examining Announcements, any reference to Time in Grade in the questionnaire will not apply to the rating and ranking of applicants.
This announcement is issued under the Direct Hire Authority to recruit for positions for which the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, has a critical hiring need.

GS-09: This is a one-graded interval series position. In a one-grade interval series, experience at the second lower grade level may be credited when there is no position in the normal line of progression that is one grade lower than the position being filled. An applicant can qualify with at least one year at either the next lower level or the second lower level.
To qualify for the GS-09 you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the second lower level, GS-07 in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and is equivalent to the GS-08 level. (One year of specialized experience at the second lower level is creditable for in service applicants only; for outside applications, one year of specialized at the next lower grade level of GS-08 is required), which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
  • Handling sensitive and/or personally identifiable information for office fi le movements.
  • Maintaining data information in office systems such as in databases to support processing and/or tracking time-sensitive fi les.
  • Securely processing incoming or outgoing mail.
