CHEMISTRY SUPERINTENDENT - Plant Hatch  
Reporting to the Site Chemistry Manager (SFAM), the Chemistry Superintendent is responsible for implementing the SNC Fleet Chemistry program at the designated site. The SFAM receives governance the Corporate Functional Area Manager (CFAM) who is responsible for providing governance and oversight for the fleet and direction to the corporate staff, Site Functional Area Managers (SFAMs) and their staff at each site. The Chemistry Superintendent is responsible for providing direct oversight of the Chemistry Supervisors who supervise the Chemistry Technicians. The Chemistry Superintendent is responsible for aligning the Chemistry organization vertically through the SFAM and CFAM and horizontally (cross-functionally) between departments. The Chemistry Superintendent ensures that instructions provided from daily meetings is integrated into the Chemistry schedule and that equipment problems are identified and addressed appropriately. The Chemistry Superintendent ensures data is trended, and significant trends are immediately identified and disclosed to the SFAM, CFAM, and site management. The Chemistry Superintendent also works cross-functionally with other CFAMs and SFAMs to address cross-cutting issues involving multiple departments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The Chemistry Superintendent position requires extensive experience in nuclear plant chemistry, plant systems, and data management. The Chemistry Superintendent must have strong supervisory skills, supervisory experience, and must demonstrate a clear understanding of and the ability to apply skills in each of the above areas, and more importantly to directly supervise individuals performing these tasks. The Chemistry Superintendent must have general knowledge of the governance and oversight mechanisms required to successfully operate Chemistry programs at nuclear power plants. Hands-on experience at an operating nuclear plant or plant under construction managing a Chemistry program is very important and outstanding oral and written communication skills are required. The Chemistry Superintendent must be able to interact at all levels of the organization, including strong working knowledge of covered position requirements and management of shift work.
Specifically, the Chemistry Superintendent must have a minimum of:
Five (5) years' experience with Chemistry programs at a nuclear power plant
Supervisory experience with demonstrated proficiency in Chemistry and experience in management or supervision of ANSI qualified technicians
Demonstrated working level knowledge of Chemistry programs
Demonstrated knowledge of CEI, Action Levels and application of the EPRI Guideline documents.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to ALARA
Clear understanding of INPO principles and the ability to apply these principles
Strong financial skills and the ability to manage complex, multi-site budgets
Outstanding oral and written communication skills and the ability to make presentations to all levels of the organization
Strong work ethic and the desire to lead by example
Strong understanding and ability to use computer applications NuclearIQ, CDAS, LabStats, Maximo, and Primavera for fleet applications
Ability to interact effectively with external groups including regulators, industry groups and peers
Commitment to Target Zero and workplace safety
This position will be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO). Selected candidate must live within one hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency
response availability
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to the above, the Chemistry Superintendent must provide direction to Chemistry Supervisors to ensure effective implementation of governance and oversight to ensure world class performance of day-to-day activities, drive standardization, and ensure program excellence for the SNC Fleet.
The Chemistry Superintendent is responsible for:
The GOSP Perform function utilizing the Playbook and Performance Improvement Integrated Matrix that defines the program and focuses on gaps to program excellence
Developing and implementing metrics to measure program success
Participating the Peer Team and ensuring that Peer Team results are communicated to the shift
Developing plans with contractors for support of outage related activities
Developing budgets each year and ensuring budget commitments are met
Developing Succession Plans for leadership positions in the organization
Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
B.S. in Chemistry or a degree in one of the following: Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Health Physics, Biology, or Environmental Health Science is required.
Advanced degree desired.
Background/Experience
Five (5) years experience in nuclear power plant chemistry is required
Experience with plant equipment and cooling water systems is highly desired.
Management/supervisory experience is required and experience supervising covered employees is valuable.

Technical Requirements
Strong knowledge of chemistry, chemistry control of various systems, drinking water treatment, and wastewater treatment
Functional knowledge of plant operations related to plant chemistry, radiological and environmental protection
Strong working knowledge of radwaste management, shipping and disposal practices
Functional knowledge of INPO support and evaluation processes
Functional knowledge of the Federal and State legislative process as it relates to development of environmental and radiological protection laws
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical and technical skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships throughout Southern Company and the industry
Strong communication skills - written, oral, listening and presentation skills are required
Ability to work effectively with others in fast-paced deadline-oriented team and ability to provide work direction and associated follow-up to team members
Must be able to balance multiple demands and set appropriate priorities
