Position Summary: 

The 2nd Assistant Superintendent works with all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the golf course. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is expected to observe golf course conditions and make suggestions. He or she should be comfortable speaking in front of large groups and can speak basic workplace Spanish. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is expected to interact with members throughout the day, and always carry himself or herself in a professional manner. This person should have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, work well in a team environment, and be determined to succeed in the golf industry.

• Typical work hours: 45–55 hours with regular scheduled time off in season.

Before becoming Director, several former employees who worked under Ken Lee as a Superintendent have also advanced to higher positions.

Key responsibilities, skills, aptitude, and knowledge:

• This individual works closely with the superintendent to supervise, schedule, and train a large crew of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees. Incorporate and enforce safe work practices. Provide safety training for employees as directed.
• Apply fertilizers and plant protectants, including calibration sprayers and spreaders. Record all applications and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Perform irrigation scheduling and make basic irrigation repairs.
• Execute and manage golf course improvement projects.
• Perform basic mowing tasks and cultural practices when needed.
• The ideal candidate will be able to recognize problems and have an eye for the details.

Requirements: 

• 4-year Turfgrass Management Degree
• The ability to obtain a GA pesticide license within 6 months of employment.
• 1-3 years of golf course maintenance experience

Chartered in 1956, Cherokee Town and Country Club is recognized as one of America's premier private clubs. Located in the Atlanta metro area, the club has two locations: the Town Club, which occupies the famed Grant Estate on West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead, and the Country Club, which is located near the Chattahoochee River in Sandy Springs.

Over its long history, Cherokee has hosted some of the top amateur golf events, most recently the 100th playing of the Georgia Amateur Championship in 2021. The club has recently secured the services of golf course architect Andrew Green, one of the most respected and sought-after architects, to create a Golf Course Master Plan for the entire property. The Golf Course Maintenance team operates out of a state-of-the-art turf care facility built in 2000.
