Job description

The City of Lake Forest is looking for a qualified, adult to instruct wheel throwing courses for ages 9-13-year-olds at Stirling Hall Art Center. Instructors must have a strong knowledge base of ceramics, specifically the potter's wheel. Be professional and reliable, and display high quality customer service. Developing a strong relationship with our student base is important at Stirling Hall Art Center and our instructors are expected to be attentive, informative and helpful for our students at all times.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Instructors are responsible for a demonstration each class to help the students develop basic forms of mug, bowl and plate.
  • Instructing 1 Young Potters 10-week sessions in the Fall, Winter, and Spring (8-weeks). The class is held Wednesdays 4-5:30pm.
  • Provide the highest quality of instruction to up to 10 total students.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans for each session.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of Cone 10 Reduction, including slip decoration and glazing techniques.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Willingness to attend instructor meetings, substitute for classes and help with special events at the art center.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Requirements:
  • Applicants MUST be 18 years of age or older
  • Previous Ceramics Potters Wheel teaching this age group experience is preferable.

Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour
One hour of prep-time is paid per class
