- Assist head teacher with individual student management including student and parent/guardian conferences.
- Cooperatively work with school staff and community resource groups to effectively integrate problem-based learning into the teaching and learning process.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment so all students can interact and learn.
- Set high expectations for students’ behavior establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through positive and productive relationships.
- Recognize that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop students’ understanding by relating their learning to real and work- related examples.
- Communicate with families and staff on behalf of students.
- Assist in student registration.
- Support students taking classes in various learning platforms.
- Calculate and record course credit for all student records at the conclusion of Summer School.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Summer School administrator and/or head teacher.
- Current School Counselor Certificate
- Currently employed by the Stamford Public Schools. Demonstrated successful experience working with students. Evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to his/her work.
- Familiarity with national, state and local curriculum standards and framework. Demonstrated experience utilizing research-based counseling strategies.
- Evidence of organizational skills and willingness to pursue tasks to a successful completion.
- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

GENERAL STATEMENT:
School counselors must make a six-week commitment to work in the High School Summer 2024 Program. A competent school counselor understands growth and development, and helps students to develop skills necessary to meet overall success. School counselors will assess and support students' needs and progress in areas of academic, socio-emotional, and career development. This position is available pending operating budget and grant funding approval.
