This is a summer position for those enrolled in an ABET accredited post-secondary education program in engineering, engineering technology or similar program. A candidate may have the opportunity for consideration to extend the internship (part-time) into the Semester school year.
Laser Scan Engineer/Technician 1 (LS-1)Position Description
An LS-1 performs entry-levelfield and data processing work. An LS-1 is responsible for maintenance and operationof measurement data collection equipment, collection of an appropriate amountof as-built data as prescribed by the project's scope, and efficient mobilizationand de-mobilization to and from temporary field offices and project sites, aswell as troubleshooting technical issues and adapting to unexpected conditions encounteredduring field work. An LS-1 is also responsible for securely handling data betweenfield and office operations, appropriately storing and backing up data, and utilizingdata processing and registration software, as well as other BIM software, toproduce high quality and accurate point clouds which align to equipment, building,campus, and/or state plane coordinates as prescribed by the project's scope. Additional work may include assisting with building facilities and shop work tasks, including assistance with maintenance and upkeep.
Responsibilities of the positioninclude, but are not limited to:
Performequipment maintenance as directed by Project Managers, Project Coordinators,and Field Team Leads.
Prepareequipment for mobilization and demobilization to job site.
Understandproject scope and plans for data collection as communicated by ProjectManagers, Project Coordinators, and Field Team Leads.
Read andunderstand site and building plans
Recordneat and accurate field notes to communicate field operations and conditions toother team members.
Operateequipment for gathering measurement data in field.
Adaptquickly to changing field conditions and project requirements.
Utilizesoftware to process and accurately register data collected in field.
Understandproject origins and accurately transform point cloud to match project origins.
Communicateproblems encountered in both field and office with appropriate Manager or TeamLeader in a timely manner and suggest potential solutions.
Followprocedures for self-check QA/QC during field and office operations at a reasonablefrequency.
Maintainthe motivation to take ownership of tasks and the determination to drive themto completion.
LST-1 will have a functionalknowledge of laser scanning technology and BIM software. Applications fromcandidates with no experience using laser scanning technology and/or BIMsoftware will be accepted. If the successful candidate does not possess therequired knowledge or experience, the LST-1 will begin with training in usageof Laser Scanning Technology and BIM products to provide an understanding ofthe equipment and software before beginning related laser scanning and dataprocessing tasks.

Requirements
MinimumQualifications
The successfulcandidate will have completed one year of experience in field work utilizingeither total station or laser scanning equipment, and/or one year of experiencein utilizing BIM software for modeling and/or working with point clouds, or anyequivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides theneeded knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PreferredQualifications
The preferredcandidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience operating laser scanners, preferably FARO scanners.
- 1-3 years of experience in Autodesk Revit.
- 1-3 years of experience in Autodesk Navisworks.
- Basic lettering and drafting skills.
- Basic knowledge of laser scan data processing and registration techniques, preferably in FARO SCENE and Autodesk ReCap.
- Understanding of the BIMForum's Reality Capture Level of Acceptance (LOA) Specification
- Understanding of the BIMForum's Level of Development (LOD) Specification
- Received Certificate of Development in BIM (CD-BIM) Part 1.
Travel
The LS-1 will berequired to travel as needed based on the location of projects and projectrequirements. Based on team makeup and availability, the role of LS-1 willrequire 0-95% travel.
