Dwight Summer Day Camp 2024

Performing Arts/Theater Specialist

For over ten years, Dwight Summer Day Camp has been providing campers with an outstanding day camp experience. We have beautiful facilities, including a six-lane pool, visual and performing art studios, and more, but the most critical ingredient of our program is our exceptional staff. Your energy, enthusiasm, care, and dedication create an atmosphere where campers feel included, supported, and nurtured. Your contact with campers throughout their day, and all during their time at Camp, has the potential to impact their lives significantly. We strive to make each day count for every child and to be worthy role models. Under the leadership of the Summer Camp Leader, we expect all staff to encourage children to make good decisions, try new things, develop friendships, and to support each other in big and small ways. We expect all staff to recognize and applaud campers’ accomplishments whether it be a homerun in softball, a creative art project, or a demonstration of kindness they have shown to someone else.

The Performing Arts/Theater Specialist oversees the drama, music, and dance programs for campers ranging in age from 4 to 12 years old. Dwight Summer Day Camp runs for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, between the hours of  9 am and 4:30 pm. 

Job Type:   Performing Arts/Theater Specialist 2024 Seasonal Summer full-time (35-40 hours per week)

Days: Monday through Friday, June 17 to August 19, 2024. 

(We will be closed for the July 4 holiday Thursday & Friday)

 

Compensation: 

This is a stipend position, and pay varies based on experience. $4,000-$7,000

Applicants with children can take advantage of discounted camp tuition

 

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)

     

    Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching/facilitating activities in Drama, Music, and Dance areas.

  • Minimum of two years working with children.

  • Competency in education and youth development.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Experience working with children from diverse background and ethnicities.

    Responsibilities:

  • Teach the fundamentals of drama, music, dance, etc. 

  • Performing Arts/Theater Specialist will work with groups of 10-15 campers.

  • Develop an age-appropriate performing arts curriculum that matches the Summer Camp weekley themes.

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of the children at all times; must be able to maintain visual and auditory supervision indoors and outside.

  • Maintain an organized, nurturing environment that encourages social, emotional, physical and intellectual development for all campers.

  • Build a positive relationship with each child in your care, and foster positive connections between campers.

  • Promote creativity and self-expression for all campers.

  • Organize supplies and keep the theatre space clean.

  • Provide direction to counselors to utilize within activities.

  • Communicate with the Summer Camp Director regularly.

  • Collaborate with the Summer Camp Director in advance of special programs and provide support on special program days.

  • Actively participate in all Camp Orientation and training sessions/meetings.

     

    Required Camp Orientations:

    In-person

  • Saturday, June 8, 9 am-3 pm: Camp introduction, team building/planning, and paperwork 

  • First Aid & CPR Training session - TBD (Required only for noncertified counselors)
