Summer Camp Assistant Tennis Director (2024)

Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 535 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 112-acre campus, seeks a Summer Camp Assistant Tennis Director for Summer 2024. This position is responsible for providing fun, exciting, and educational experiences for tennis campers by teaching the drills, rules, and skills of the game. The salary range for this position is $675.00 to $750.00 per week. This position is temporary and not eligible for benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities (includes assisting the Summer CampTennis Director with the following):

• Enthusiastic and high-energy individual who enjoys being in the company of children

• Knowledge of camp policies, rules, guidelines as well as general practices and procedures followed at Dawson Summer Camp

• Oversees, plans and implements all camp activities including special activities and/or assignments with approval from the Director of Auxiliary Programs

• Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being

• Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.

• Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them

• Handles questions, problems, and concerns of parent/guardian before and after camp

• Observes the peer culture to see if there are any problems and implements solutions as necessary

• Monitors and ensures appropriate participant behavior and adherence to camp rules and regulations

• Handles emergency situations and reports them to the Director of Auxiliary Programs

• Takes care of all injuries including first aid

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas

• Complete and log sunscreen checks

• Makes recommendations to the Director of Auxiliary Programs when necessary

• Seeks advice and/or assistance from the Director of Auxiliary Programs when needed

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age by the start of camp to be eligible to apply

• Intermediate tennis skills and knowledge of the game.

• Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field

• Must have worked a minimum of 460 hours supervising four or more school aged children and be able to provide appropriate documentation

• Must have the physical ability to assist and participate in camp activities

• Must have the ability to attend mandatory staff training

• Current First Aid and CPR certification required prior to the first day of camp

• Lifeguard certification prior to first day of camp, if applicable

• Experience in planning programs

• Ability to work collaboratively with others

• Possess excellent leadership, management, and organization skills

• Patient, enthusiastic, self-controlled and dependable

• A positive outlook, and a sense of humor

• A high level of integrity and an extraordinary work ethic

Expectations:

• Commitment: the ability to work a minimum of 2 weeks (not necessarily consecutive)

• Weeks: (June 3 - June 7), (June 10 - June 14), (June 24 - June 28), (July 15 - July 19), (July 22 - July 28)

• Work Hours: 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. Camp day starts promptly at 8:30 a.m.

• Complete all Summer Camp student safety requirements and child protection licensing requirements

• Complete 15-hours of pre-camp training provided by the Director of Auxiliary Programs
