NCSC's Research & Design Group, Diversity Internship Program, offers students from various cultural backgrounds, lifestyles, experiences and interests exposure to NCSC and the critical work we do for state courts. NCSC is seeking Research Interns for Summer 2024 to join our team. This is a fully remote internship. This opportunity is for graduate students. The 10-week internship is full-time (37.5 hours per week), $15/hr, with an opportunity to begin early in Spring 2024 and/or continue into the academic year. During the Spring and Fall semesters, hours are flexible around your academic obligations. Alongside NCSC research staff and court stakeholders, Research Interns will assist on various court-related research projects to gain applied research skills across substantive areas of the court administration and justice.
This internship introduces students to an applied research-oriented career, as well as the various positions within the state court system and its stakeholders. We anticipate that the research intern(s) will assist on several projects during their internship. Some of these projects will be with researchers working on the , , and Other projects could include but are not limited to topics on civil and criminal case processing (see ), racial equity and justice in the courts (see ), artificial intelligence (AI) in technology in the courts, and pretrial notification procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific tasks may involve policy analyses, literature reviews, analysis of state best practices, content coding of print and video materials, research interviewing with stakeholders, data preparation and analyses, writing research brief publications and data documentation guidelines, and attending project meetings.

Qualifications
- Students working toward their MA or PhD in Psychology, Political Science, Data Science, Public Policy or any other related social science field
- Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and ability to take initiative
- Strong attention to detail
- Skills in data visualization (e.g., Excel, Tableau)
- Knowledge in data management, legal research, content coding, as well as personal or professional experience with the law or court system
