TITLE: Substitute School Nurse
SCHEDULE: As needed for coverage
HOURS: 8am - 3:30pm at CPS or 7:30am - 3:00pm at CIS as needed
PAY RATE: $18 per hour based on experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Illinois School Nurse's License preferred.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide assessment, screening, planning, intervention, and evaluation concerning the health and medical care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing educational opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observes and adheres to all Board of Education policies and regulations and all administrative rules and procedures.
- Follows all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the health services program.
- Supervises and maintains daily routine of school health office to include proper documentation and medication administration.
- Communicates pertinent information and updates regarding students to the building nurse via written notes, email, or by communicating with the other building's nurse to maintain continuity of care needed.
- Administers first aid, emergency care, and nursing services to staff and students.
- Completes an accident report when a student or employee is injured.
- Plans and supervises the safe, effective administration of medication needed to maintain the child in school within district and state policy guidelines.
- Performs screenings for communicable diseases/conditions as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality in relation to students', parents' and employees' health information.
- Develops a positive working relationship with administration, staff, students and parents.
- Maintains current certification for Red Cross First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
- Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.
