Berwyn North School District 98 is located in Berwyn, Illinois. The district has three elementary schools and one middle school and serves more than 2,500 students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Job Title:Substitute Custodian
Classification: Classified
Accountability: Reports to Building Principal
Job Profile: To perform cleaning and maintenance to the interior and exterior of Berwyn North School District 98 buildings and facilities in an effort to provide a clean, safe, comfortable environment for students and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Dust mop all corridors and stairwells
• vacuum all carpeted areas
• Move all desks and chairs in all areas other than carpeted floors and sweep with a treated dust mop
• Sweep gym floors with a treated dust mop
• Dust window sills and wooden rails in the halls and classrooms
• Clean blackboards and wipe chalk rail in each room with a damp cloth to remove residue
• Empty pencil sharpeners in each room
• Clean all drinking fountains, lavatories, and stools in all washrooms with disinfectant, check all dispensers and fill as required, and clean mirrors
• Scrub floors of all washrooms and kitchens with wet mops
• Remove all debris from floors and empty waste receptacles in each room
• Dispose of all paper refuse collected each day in the dumpster provided and lock the dumpster
• Check that the building has been vacated by all staff and students and lock Lock the main doors as directed.
• Vacuum runners at entranceways
• Store all flammable liquids in metal containers in secure area(s)
• Do minor repairs as required, leave notes for the Head Day/Night Custodian identifying outstanding repairs requiring attention
• Wash art room tables
• Wet mop specific areas designated by the Building Principal
• Cleans and disinfects lavatory areas including sinks, urinals and toilets using appropriate disinfectants and chemical solutions
• Refills toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towel dispensers
• Cleans, dusts, and polishes all surfaces and furniture
• Shovel snow and spread salt either manually or with snowblower equipment
• cut and trim lawns and shrubbery as needed; waters and fertilizes lawns
• Removes litter and debris from building grounds
• Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums, meeting rooms, halls as needed

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

• Graduation from high school, or GED equivalent

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Good physical health
• Ability and willingness to perform the work duties
• Ability and willingness to learn and follow instructions
• Prior custodial work experience
• Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in English
• Some knowledge of the basic methods of building cleaning and housekeeping
• Familiarity with basic grounds and landscape maintenance
• Strong work ethic
• Understanding of and willingness to maintain high standards in providing cleaning services for District buildings and offices
• Ability to work without direct supervision

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in Spanish

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds of force occasionally
• Ability to lift twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds frequently
• Ability and willingness to work inside and outside of buildings and facilities and in inclement weather conditions
