Performs intermediate skilled human support work providing school health services and physical screening to students,
preparing and maintaining student records, and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate
supervision of the Licensed School Nurse and building Principal.
Essential Functions
The following functions are intended only as illistrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties
does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assigment to the position.
Monitors and dispenses prescription and over the counter medications; monitors diets and diabetic blood sugars.
Obtains and follows physician orders.
Maintains accurate legible count and schedule medications.
Delivers direct nursing care as specified on Individualized Education Program, Health plans and 504 plans.
Provides first aide and emergency interventions.
Updates, mails and obtains parent signed Individual Health Plans.
Conducts vision, hearing, height, weight, etc. screening, tracking and follow up.
Maintains register of office visits and phone calls.
Reviews health records determining special needs.
Obtains and reviews student records for immunization compliance.
Informs Licensed School Nurse (LSN) of significant injuries/illness or student health changes or problems.
Reports suspected physical or sexual abuse or neglect.
Assists LSN in gathering data for student health assessments, educating training for staff and students, building safety
maintenance, etc.
Follows District and health office policies,
Obtains new student health records; coordinates transfers of health records; inputs information into system.
Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the common medical practices, procedures and techniques associated with a standard physical
examination; thorough knowledge of the preliminary diagnosis of medical problems and the administration of
medications related to treatment and first aid; ability to administer medications and apply therapeutic treatments as
required; ability to follow technical oral and written instructions in exact detail; ability to perform student health
assessments and maintain accurate records
Education and Experience
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in medical, or related field.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and
occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; worker is frequently speaking or hearing and using hands to finger,
handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking and sitting; work requires close vision, distance vision and
ability to adjust focus; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken
word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and
analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring
devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to
bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipmentwork has no exposure to
environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Special Requirements
CPR and First Aid certification.
