School Summary: TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA CMVS) is a tuition-free virtual public school serving students in grades K12 statewide, the highest performing CMVS in the State. Operated in partnership with Connections Academy, and sponsored by Massachusetts leading collaborative, The Education Cooperative (TEC), the school opened for the 201415 School Year with approval by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Connections Academy is a division of Connections Education, which is accredited by AdvancED. TECCA is searching for a Compass Program Teacher for students who are intellectually impaired.Position and Responsibilities: Working from home and in the office in East Walpole, Massachusetts, certified Severe Special Needs Teacher will provide instruction and virtually manage instructional programs.
Through use of the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools they will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her courses and instructional program. The Compass Program Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: Ensure compliance with all special education timelinesAttend IEP meetingsWrite IEPsComplete Progress Reports twice per School YearSupport the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and instruction supplemented with self-paced curriculum work;Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and parents and teachers);Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update IEPs, schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects; Develop a strong knowledge of the Compass Program and a very detailed knowledge of the courses for which responsible; Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects;Communicate regularly with parents and students, through use of computer and telephone;Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts; Develop and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a school community;Participate in the organization and administration of MCAS ALT;Participate in student outreach sessions and other activities that require teacher representation;Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for families; andOther duties as assigned.Although TECCA is a CMVS, the successful candidate is required to work from the office 2 days per week for the first 90 school days, in addition to being in person for new staff orientation, back to school days, faculty/staff meetings and MCAS administration.
