Job description

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Study Abroad Intake Advisor delivers academic and programmatic advising to students on an array of international academic programs primarily by managing virtual and in-person drop-in advising, as well as over email. Engages students to identify their academic needs and then provides academic planning frameworks to integrate Study Abroad with degree requirements. Supports students in navigating Study Abroad in relation to diverse and intersecting identities. Advising spans a range of topics including, but not limited to, program offerings; satisfying degree requirements and credit transfer; College and School academic policies and petition processes; application and registration; eligibility; finances; deadlines; and provide referrals to appropriate campus units and resources. Evaluate and process applications, and conduct relevant follow-up. Support with marketing and outreach efforts; editing and updating of the website; and other initiatives as needed. Facilitate appointment scheduling with specialized staff. Manage upkeep of the IEO front desk. Generally guide students working as peer advisors, when these students are available to the IEO. Actively and continuously, assess and contribute to current advising and administrative practices and resources. Consult with the Associate Director on non-conforming tasks, initiatives, and issues, including student cases, collaborations, and processes. Take on projects that align with the needs and goals of the IEO and, where possible, with their professional interests.

Required/Preferred
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent experience/training.
Required
Experience living or studying abroad.
Required
Working knowledge of Study Abroad field and university administrative policies, procedures, resources, and support services.
Preferred
Skill in reading, writing, and understanding professional workplace language and demonstrated ability to communicate it clearly and effectively in person, through electronic and virtual media, and in writing, to students, faculty, administrators, and partners from diverse backgrounds, representing the University in a professional and accurate manner.
Required
Skill in using a variety of interpersonal communications skills to interact appropriately and diplomatically with a diverse group of individuals.

Proficiency in office suite applications including Microsoft Office and G
Suite.

Working knowledge of Federal and State laws and University policy
regarding confidentially of student records.

Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner
when there are competing requirements and deadline pressures.

Organizational skills to maintain accurate student databases and files,

General knowledge of University regulations, procedures, and administrative organization relationships.

Working knowledge of survey applications (SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Google forms) and collaborative software (e.g., Slack, Teams, Skype, Trello).

Ability to provide general guidance to peer advisors.

Arithmetic skill to compute program eligibility criteria with accuracy, to understand and explain program costs, accounts, and financial aid, and to compile and analyze data.

Ability and willingness to develop proficiency in new innovative tools, methods, and technologies to improve processes, increase collaboration, and deliver better student services.

Availability to work extended hours on occasion and to travel when necessary.

Basic HTML ability to update website.
