Job Description: Looking for an interesting campus job that will give you some great stories to tell? Want to help literally write history?
As a member of the Institute for Oral History transcription team, you have the opportunity to help tell fascinating, real-life stories from amazing individuals from our collection by transcribing their interviews. You will create meaningful archival material and also serve as an office assistant on a variety of tasks as needed.
Our department is looking for candidates who self-motivated, interested in history, and detail-oriented to fill this role. Transcription Assistant responsibilities include transcribing, audit-checking, and at times fact-checking interviews. The ideal candidate will be interested in working with primary source materials, want to improve their typing and editing skills and enjoys listening to things like history podcasts.
This is position expects a minimum commitment of 10hours per week during standard business hours (8am-5pm Monday-Friday), but your schedule within that timeframe is up to you. Set your own schedule! A remote work option will be considered for students who have worked at the IOH for at least one semester and have a proven track record.
In this position, Transcription Assistants will develop speed and accuracy in producing and processing transcripts, expand their knowledge of database systems such as Filmmaker, strengthen their research skills through expanded knowledge of primary sources at the Institute, and gain knowledge on how to develop their own oral history project.
Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and be able to conduct basic internet research, as needed. The ability to work independently and manage their own time to complete
transcription projects is required. General office experience desired. Experience with digital audio media is a plus.
