Under the supervision of the Purdue University Fire Department (PUFD), the student Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) will provide emergency medical care upon request to the sick and injured during special events, on the West Lafayette campus, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and PUFD's policies and medical protocols.
- For full consideration, all applicants must hold a current state or National Registry EMT certification and upload a copy at the time of application submission.
- All employees must maintain an Indiana EMT certification.
- NREMT and out-of-state employees can obtain certification through the reciprocity process after hire.
The student EMT-B will provide emergency and non -emergency services as requested. The EMT-B will provide medical treatment consistent with the EMT-B Scope of Practice. They will also ensure completion of incident reports, and participate in any EMS training as identified by the PUFD Fire Chief.
Must:
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls calmly, efficiently and promptly
- Administer basic life support to patients at the scene in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Be familiar with the skills and procedures allowed to be performed with and without medical direction.
- React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands, communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers; and other firefighting and emergency services agencies.
- Provide guidance and support to other EMS staff.
- Maintain safety and/or infection control standards.
