Opportunity Description North Seattle College is looking to hire a Director of the Student Learning Center in the Library and Learning Support division. Salary Range for this position is $80,000 to $84,826 annually. Initial review of application materials will begin on November 20, 2023.

Position Summary Under the supervision of the Dean of the Library and Learning Support Services, the Director of the Student Learning Center will be responsible for leading and managing a campus wide tutoring and learning support center with a staff of 40 permanent tutors, 40-50 student tutors, 10 greeters, 4 part-time coordinators, and a full-time program coordinator to deliver high quality tutoring services in multiple disciplines - accounting, computer science, English, ESL, math, world languages, and more. The SLC director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the center, coordination of management, budget development and oversight, hiring and training of staff, marketing and public relations, the development and implementation of student support curriculum in the SLC, and collaboration with the counseling department on the delivery of academic skills workshops. The director also serves in outward facing roles as the SLC representative on various campus committees.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8:00am-5:00pm. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS. What you will be working on: Manage budget of $650,000 to ensure tutoring services are meeting t6he needs of students.

Work closely with the tutoring coordinators from the Workforce Instruction, Basic and Transitional Studies, AHSS, and Math/Science divisions to budget for their programs, hire tutoring staff, establish SLC administrative policies, conduct staff training, and coordinate scheduling. Supervise 40 permanent classified tutors, 40-50 student tutors, 10 work study greeters and computer tutors, a full-time program coordinator, and 2 part-time non-faculty tutoring coordinators. Work with Dean of the Library and Learning Support and Appropriate Divisional Deans to assist with supervision of faculty tutoring coordinators.

Work collaboratively with department coordinators in World Languages. Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science to hire and schedule tutors in their areas. Work collaboratively with administrators in the Workforce Instruction, Basic and Transitional Studies, AHSS, and Math & Science divisions in the selection and evaluation of tutoring coordinators for their divisions.

Supervise a full-time classified Program Coordinator, monitoring the onboarding process of new employees, approval of timesheets, scheduling and training of SLC greeters, ordering of supplies, and maintenance of SLC records as well as other administrative tasks. Work with faculty from multiple divisions on the development delivery, and evaluation of student support courses offered in the Student Learning Center including Eng. 080, Eng.

197, ESL 039, Math 089, Education 200, and HDC 125. Ensure in-person and online tutoring services are being scheduled and staffed to meet student needs and align with the college's operating hours. Work with program coordinator to make sure staff are trained in how to use college software applications such as Starfish, Canvas, Zoom, ctcLink, Outlook, and more.

Chair the Tutoring Advisory Committee to engage in campus-wide discussions about tutoring with stakeholders from outside the SLC staff. Lead SLC Leadership Team Meetings to address policy, budgeting, personnel, training, and pedagogical issues impacting the entire center. Organize and deliver synchronous and asynchronous training to new tutors to make certain all new staff begin with a basic level of tutoring pedagogy.

Develop ongoing professional development opportunities for SLC staff. Maintain and update online tutor training materials and engage with new tutors progressing through the training. Work with SLC coordinators and program coordinator to maintain SLC Canvas shell to deliver online training, facilitate department communication, and house important employee forms/materials.

Assess and evaluate all tutoring services offered through the SLC generating student satisfaction, retention, and success reports to measure the impact SLC services are having on the student population at NSC. Generate reports measuring usage by Perkins eligible, Worker Retraining, and International Students to support continued funding of the SLC. Work with SLC faculty coordinators to develop a comprehensive annual funding proposal to the Student and Activities Fee Board totaling $200,000.

Lead marketing and public relations initiatives to promote the Student Learning Center including making public presentations/orientations/tours, developing collateral marketing material, and maintaining the SLC website. Work closely with the Advising Department to deliver "Writing a Personal Statement" workshops. Collaborate with other departments to deliver workshops on an as needed basis.

Manage the facilities of the SLC including the administrative processes for booking breakout rooms and the SLC seminar room as well as making sure all areas are properly maintained for student and staff use. Maintain relationship with Western E-Tutoring Consortium to make sure NSC is making its tutoring contribution to the program and participating in advisory council meetings Work with the IT department to maintain the SLC's computer rich environment, evaluate and purchase new software for the various learning areas, and make sure equipment and software are meeting student needs. Work with faculty and department heads to deliver tutor navigator programming to English, ESL, math computer science, and other courses.

Collaborate with the library staff to hire and schedule computer tutors in their areas. Organize community building events for staff to build morale and a sense of cohesion in the department. Work with the NSC rental coordinator regarding renting out SLC space.

Serve on the Guided Pathways and other college committees as needed. Address student complaints and personnel issues in a thoughtful manner in consultation with faculty coordinators and occasionally with division deans and the Vice-President of Instruction. Work with the Library and Learning Support Division leadership team to support other areas in the division on an as needed basis including the library, teaching & Learning Center, and media center.
