ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently searching for one Student Communications Assistant to work in the Marketing Department. The Student Communications Assistantcrafts compelling written content across various media and supports, develops, and identifies campus outreach initiatives. This position is designed to provide opportunities to students to hone customer service skills, technical skills, flexibility and versatility, team development, and foster professional growth.
The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills as this position will engage and interact with the student body and campus community through various channels. Additionally, this position will be tasked in supporting the Enterprises' Marketing Department staff members in various marketing and outreach efforts.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The Marketing Student Assistant will be tasked with completing various marketing and communication related tasks which may include but are not limited to:
- Writes copy for the following: campaigns, press releases, video scripts, radio ads, flyers, brochures, articles, newsletters, annual reports, external client projects, and other publications
- Reads, proofs, and edits to detect errors/style discrepancies in written communication, pre-press projects such as press releases, flyers, brochures, articles, newsletters, annual reports, external client projects, and other publications
- Formulates and writes articles that cover marketing events
- Contributes story ideas and conducts interviews
- Assists in compiling local media coverage report and media clips
- Conduct outreach efforts at events, including informational booths, displays, and other related materials
- Identify and research outreach activities and opportunities to increase awareness of the Foundation and its units
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled as a Marketing, Public Relations, Communications Major, or similar field
- Able to present information to various audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Cal Poly Pomona
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in journalism and/or public relations
- Experience with AP Style writing
- Desire to learn about marketing, outreach, and corporate communications
- Portfolios or work samples will be greatly welcomed
