Summary

Perform diverse and difficult visual, mechanical, and functional inspections of all models of complete aircraft. This includes, but is not limited to, aircraft systems checks, testing, calibration, verification, measuring, and documentation of mechanical and cosmetic acceptance or rejection of complete aircraft, components and systems. Ability to perform all aspects of fabrication inspection to assure all parts and assemblies meet Piper quality or outside requirements. Verify that the aircraft has been manufactured to the latest aircraft production order, engineering data, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations that all production travelers and related paperwork have been completed and all system checks satisfactorily completed and current. Use a variety of hand tools, check fixtures, tensiometers, protractors, air pressure gages, ohm meters, precision measuring instruments and test equipment; assist in completion of conformity inspections and engineering programs. Must be familiar with the complete aircraft, Piper engineering data, and FAA regulations and able to make decisions independently. Work independently or with minimal direction from Team Leader.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Work from and follow travelers, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, Aircraft Production Orders, schematics, engineering orders, Piper Production Specifications (PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Material Review Board, and verbal/written instruction.

Interpret and work with CIP drawings, Quality Assurance Manual (QAM), standard repair manual (VB-80), Aircraft Production Orders (APO), and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

Review serial number records, break of inspection records, correction sheets, engineering orders, and compliance sheets for legibility, completeness, and accuracy on previous operations.

Verify that all time sensitive aircraft components, hoses, fuel cells, "o" rings are within the approved shelf life; that altimeters, static system test.

Ensure that only current and approved drawings, specifications, FARs, QAM instructions and travelers are used during production and testing of aircraft and systems.

Verify that CIP drawings have been complied with when applicable.

Perform a variety of difficult visual and physical inspections and tests to aircraft and flight systems.

Utilize a variety of hand tools, precision measuring devices, check templates, gages and test equipment.

Inspect completed aircraft to assure compliance with type design data, flight safety requirements and FARs.

Perform conformity inspections as required.

Note and report deviations from specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrective action or disposal of rejected materials.

Interface with Production, Engineering, and other departments as necessary to achieve corrective actions and determine cause.

Use shop math, conversion charts, process charts, and formulas to accomplish required inspections.

Maintain accurate records of inspections and procedures accomplished.

Monitor assigned work area for adherence to procedures and processes, proper use of tools and fixtures, calibration date of tools in use, shelf life of rubber goods and adhesives, proper storage of materials and components, general housekeeping and safety practices.

Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to leadperson/supervisor.

Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.

Other duties as assigned by Team Leader.

Qualifications

Must have specific knowledge of complete product line and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), three to five years manufacturing and one year Quality Assurance direct experience with full product line, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of Piper drawings and specifications, QAM, VB-80, FAR's, and shop paperwork.

Language Skills

Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate rate, ratio, and percent. Use of shop math and basic algebra together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, conversion tables, and a variety of precision measuring instruments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, bend, stoop, and crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, and smell; and occasionally required to sit. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee is required to climb or balance and work in confined spaces and unusual positions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must pass a company-administered hearing and visual exam.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to paint over spray, fumes, airborne dust and debris, toxic or caustic chemicals, volatile fuels, and outside climate conditions. Employee will frequently work around work around sharp edges, moving aircraft and components and occasionally work around engines at high temperatures and aircraft on jacks. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
