We're looking for critical thinkers with a strong journalism background to join Lee Enterprises' Strategic Content Support team, which turns analytics into action across more than 70 local newsrooms.
As a strategist on the team, you'll serve as a key resource for journalists across Lee by:
- Testing and measuring ideas for growth with newsroom partners.
- Analyzing newsrooms' coverage and priorities.
- Creating and leading training on digital best practices.
- Providing high-level guidance on major breaking news.
Lee's strategists dive deeply into our newsrooms' journalism and digital performance. They're thoughtful, personable, approachable, innovative and collaborative.
Above all, you should be able to connect with journalists across the company from reporters to senior directors. You'll develop and lead newsroom training sessions and make the case for adopting digital-first, data-informed strategies that help convert and retain subscribers. You'll also measure their progress and offer advice based on the results.
What skills are we looking for?
Strategists are wholly focused on driving audience and digital subscription growth. Critical and analytical thinking skills are a must. So too is an understanding of digital news audiences and how their needs differ from traditional newspaper readers.
You should be familiar with content analytics tools (we use Parse.ly and Google Analytics) and programs like Excel and PowerPoint. You should have a track record of successfully crafting or executing digital strategies (e.g., search engine optimization, social media, newsletters). You should be comfortable working independently, contributing to team projects and collaborating across teams.

What is the pay range?
This salaried position has an expected annualized pay range of $60,000 to $80,000. Actual salary may vary based on factors such as employee location, education, experience and other factors permitted by law. The listed salary range is just one component of Lee's total compensation and benefits package.
Where would you work?
This is a remote position. We will consider candidates anywhere in the continental United States, but you'll be expected to collaborate with colleagues in the Eastern and Central time zones. We will provide you with a laptop, monitors, keyboard and mouse for your home office. If you live near one of our newsrooms, you're welcome to work there, but it isn't required.
What about travel?
If you live near a Lee location, you may be asked to meet with journalists in person. Otherwise, you may be asked to attend one or two team-related meetings in person per year.
