Job Summary
Design visual communications for the Prairie Research Institute (PRI) for key stakeholders through various platforms and vehicles. Maintain and strengthen the PRI and University of Illinois brand through all materials.Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and Branding
• Implement designs for print, web, and other media that effectively communicate with diverse audiences about PRI's wide range of scientific projects, programs, services, and engagement activities according to established style.
• Take direction from the senior designer at PRI, who will be leading overall style decisions.
• Assist with creating a PRI-wide style guide.
• Collaborate with vendors to obtain quotes, provide print specifications, and deliver project files. Review and approve proofs and attend press checks when necessary. - Custom Graphics and Illustration
• Create graphics and vector illustrations as needed for PRI materials, social media, and web. - Image Asset Management
• Assist with setting up, curating, and maintaining a database of PRI images. - Other
• Stay abreast of print and web design trends and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign branding standards.
• Perform other duties as needed to further the mission and goals of PRI.
Additional Physical Demands
The work of this position takes place in an office setting. The work is sedentary and involves remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time working at a computer, using a keyboard and mouse, and using repetitive hand motions. A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. Demonstrated experience in graphic designing, social media, news reporting, and or radio/television broadcasting.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience as a graphic designer in public relations, journalism, social media communications, newspaper reporting, radio/television broadcasting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in science communication. Experience designing materials for diverse audiences across a broad variety of platforms and vehicles (e.g., print, digital, social media). Experience creating branded templates in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office Suite software. Familiarity and experience with image asset management. Experience developing graphics and vector illustrations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of design fundamentals, layout, typography, design equipment, and software, including Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud. Effective communication, personal relations, collaboration, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of multiple and changing priorities with stringent deadlines, under minimal supervision. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong conflict resolution skills.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 2/19/2024. The salary minimum salary for this position is $58,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
