Position Purpose
Responsible for field data collection and GIS documentation in support of the Stormwater Regulatory Team and the ongoing administration of the Ralston Creek tributary within the City of Arvada. Responsible for providing administrative and organizational assistance in support of MS4 management.
Job Functions / Scope of Authority
JOB KNOWLEDGE - Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Collects written, electronic, and photographic data about stormwater features throughout the City without direct supervision
  2. Uses ESRI Collector to navigate study site and record geographic data
  3. Troubleshoots GIS equipment with assistance
  4. Performs field sampling and laboratory analysis for water quality purposes
  5. Coordinates with stormwater and GIS teams for guidance and support
  6. Employs field equipment and gear in support of one's own safety and comfort
  7. Presents findings to stormwater team and department administration
  8. Plans working schedule around periods of precipitation or unpleasant outdoor conditions

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Other duties as assigned. Duties may vary depending on project scope.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
Receives general direction from Stormwater Regulatory Analyst. Fieldwork is completed independently or with assistance when needed. Reports project status to the stormwater team on a regular basis.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.
COMMUNICATION/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal Contacts: Stormwater Regulatory Team, Operations Support GIS Team
Working Environment / Qualifications
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires physical work. Lifting, pushing, or pulling weights of up to 25 pounds is expected. Carrying field equipment while traversing difficult terrain or shallow water for long distances is required. Hot seasonal working conditions are expected.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED equivalency and some post-secondary coursework in environmental science or GIS is required. Proficiency with Word and Excel are required. Experience with field data collection including GPS-based data collection is preferred. Introductory knowledge of the Clean Water Act or MS4 Permit regulations is advantageous.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Requires use of standard office equipment. Requires use of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Requires use of GIS software including ArcGIS Pro, Google Maps, and Esri Field Maps. Requires use of field equipment including mobile devices, measuring tapes, and cameras. Requires use of PPE including high-visibility vests as needed. Requires use of motor vehicle.

The City of Arvada does not offer benefits to temporary and/or seasonal employees. Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
