Description
SUMMARY:
The Sterilization Technician is responsible for maintaining the sterilization of all clinic dental equipment as well as patient rooms. Additional duties include keeping patient rooms stocked and following all OSHA compliance guidelines. Helping turn rooms around by cleaning between patients when necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for maintenance and operation of autoclave, incubator and medical instruments. This includes running control tests and monitoring control settings on autoclave and checking all wrapped instruments for expiration dates.
• Cleans medication rooms, exam rooms, waiting rooms, restrooms, counter space in waiting room on a regular basis. This includes but it not limited to: wiping counters, emptying trash cans, cleaning walls and floors.
• Performs STAT precautions for contaminated areas.
• Launders patient gowns and employee uniforms. Folds laundry throughout the day.
• Empties trash and disposes of infectious waste and cardboard boxes.
• Replaces sharp containers when full.
• Change cidex monthly and alcohol daily.
• Reports broken equipment and fixtures to supervisor or Maintenance.
• Order and stock housekeeping and janitorial supplies.
• Sets up for meetings including arranging tables, chairs, and food set-up.
• Orders medical instruments as needed and assists supply clerk in ordering and receiving as needed.
• Trains Medical Assistants in sterilization and autoclaving.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Adherence to the ODCHC attendance policy.
• Other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to communicate with other staff and supervisor.
• Ability to prioritize job duties and work without direct supervision.
• Ability to follow instructions given verbally or in writing.
• Ability to write short memos and notes.

EDUCATION:

• High School diploma or GED.
• 6 months to 1 year of housekeeping experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person, at normal volumes.
• Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to reach above shoulder-level, and to squat, bend, sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Repetitive motion--hands, arms and shoulders.
• Ability to lift 25lbs and move up to 50 pounds.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation.
