Description
Devon Power Station is a 244-megawatt (MW) kerosene and natural gas power station in Milford, Connecticut. The Station Electrician Multi Skilled Operator (MSO) installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. They ensure that the work is in accordance with relevant codes. Electricians can also work with transformers, generators, lighting, and other electrical systems. This position requires knowledge gained through prior experience in electrical trades or completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Support Station Operations as determined by management to ensure reliability.

Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an electrician
  • Ability to work extended hours including nights and weekends to support reliable operations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Completion of electrical trade school preferred.
  • CT Journey Electrician card preferred.
  • Experience working as an electrician in a power plant preferred.

Other Desirable Skills
  • Good communicative skills with the ability to effectively work with a variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively use mobile computing devices to capture/record diagnostic results, create estimates and job specific proposals.
  • Ability to document job specific information, complete and close out work orders.
  • Ability to follow technical drawings, building plans, and wiring diagrams.
  • An ability to work carefully, methodically, and safely.
  • An ability to work at heights more than 100 Feet
  • A willingness to work in all sorts of weather.
  • A willingness to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to qualify for a second skill as determined by management.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to on-call and emergency service requests.
  • Ability to work in mentally stressful environments.
  • Daily work expectation requires the ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, and working with hand tools (up to 25 pounds) in position above and below the head, and extended from the body to complete repairs.
  • Lift, carry, position, and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50 lbs.) in awkward positions, swing various weights of sled hammers, stoop, and bend to reach valves, pull on chain-falls or come-a-longs.
  • Ability to twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Can discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals.
  • Ability to discern assorted colors.
