OVERVIEW
Founded in 1947 by Nina Vance, the Alley Theatre is a pioneer of regional theatre, and one of the leading nonprofit theatre companies in the United States. JOB STATEMENT
The Stage Technician is responsible for preparing onstage and backstage, supporting all technical rehearsals, and running the show operations under the supervision of the Stage OperationsSupervisor. The Stage Technician appears on stage, as necessary, to shift props & scenery, and perform any other duties as assigned by the Stage Operations Supervisor and Stage Management. The Stage Technician also participates in all build, strikes, and load-ins as assigned by the Scenery Director and Stage Operations Supervisor.
JOB DUTIES
  • Actively participate in shifting all props and scenery during performances as assigned.
  • Actively participate in all builds, strikes and load-ins for each production as assigned.
  • Actively participate in daily cleaning and show specific maintenance as assigned.
  • Supervised by the Scenery Director and Stage Operations Supervisor, organize and maintain the support facilities utilized by the Scenery department.
  • Maintain all hand tools distributed to them as outlined in the Scene Shop Policy Manual.
  • Represent the theatre's technical resources as required by the Director of Production for theatre programs including, but not limited to special events, Education and Community Outreach programs, building rentals, and other non-Alley building functions.
  • Act in concert with the theatre's safety policies, including adherence to the Alley Theatre's current COVID-19 Safety Plan.
  • Actively engage in education and development of anti-oppressive and inclusive practices and policies backstage and theatre wide.
  • Additionalduties asassigned.

REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE):
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, energized, and quickly changing environment.
  • An initiative-taking approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize efficiently and multi-task.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to self-direct and take initiative.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude with honest communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of historical and institutional racism in the American theatre, or a commitment to learning, and to be a part of Alley Theatre's efforts to be an anti-racist organization
  • Training in safe operation of stationary and portable power tools and hand tools.
  • Experience working backstage on theatrical productions preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing during show performances.
  • Ability to work in sometimes dark, quiet, or enclosed spaces.
  • Ability to move and lift 30-50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights up to sixty-five feet.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where directions and priorities can change rapidly.
  • A typical work week will be Tuesday through Sunday. The hours during assigned productions follow technical rehearsal and performance schedules. The technical rehearsal period will include morning and afternoon hours. Performance hours are typically evening hours with weekend daytime availability following the show schedule.
