POSITION OVERVIEW
The Maintenance Instrumentation Technician reports to the Maintenance Instrumentation Supervisor and is responsible for the safe, efficient execution of routine maintenance and turnaround activities on the site instrumentation systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs the duties of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal Maintenance Instrumentation Technician on a regularly scheduled shift, sometimes including overtime, holidays, weekends, and nights.
- Maintains instrumentation equipment on all pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, etc.
- Maintains the instrumentation equipment in the facility recognizing the environmental consequences of actions taken and striving for the highest levels of environmental and safety compliance.
- Works with equipment such as PLC's, temperature controllers, various instrumentation (eg. Pressure transmitters, flow meters, temperature sensing devices, etc.).Records maintenance data and informs the Maintenance Instrumentation Supervisor of potential problems and failures in a timely manner; works with the Maintenance Instrumentation Supervisor to expeditiously resolve problems and improve plant reliability and safety.
- Collaborate with reliability and engineering to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data and support improvement recommendations.
- Perform wire terminations to a variety of instruments and verify sensor health such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, valves, limits and flow meters.
- Perform highly skilled installation, commissioning, inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation and related equipment.
- Make recommendations to improve existing instrumentation and control systems to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Perform all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
Must understand plant surroundings and be able to identify relevant equipment. Understand the physical properties of LNG. Possess basic knowledge of safe handling practices, governmental regulations, and related technical and safety codes, standards, and reporting requirements. Knowledge of plant rules and guidelines regarding relevant equipment operations and certification requirements. In-depth knowledge of plant maintenance protocols and equipment diagnostics.
- General familiarity with DCS systems
- Proficient in troubleshooting various instrumentation using loop drawings, schematics, electrical one-line, and P&ID.
Skills:
- An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.
- Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues, and compliance with policies and procedures are all essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.
- Able to follow directions and quickly formulate and effectively communicate questions if clarification of an assignment is required.
- Able to apply existing skills in new roles and/or environments.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Possess basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and have an aptitude for learning new software applications and systems.
- Able to use key features of relevant CMMS software to perform job duties.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers and contractors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent time worked in an industrial setting is required. Formal education in related technical or engineering disciplines or related military training/experience is desirable. Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.
- Craft Skills: Must be qualified in maintaining or repairing at least one of the following:
- Distributed Control System (DCS)
- Instrumentation
Experience: Plant maintenance experience in a related industry or military setting is required. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and personal characteristics of integrity, accountability, and dependability are also required. Experience with LNG or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids experience is a plus.

The Instrumentation Technician requires supervision but must also use sound judgment and make good decisions.
WORK CONDITIONS

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear, smell, type and write.
- Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-round weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors. There is a considerable number of outdoor activities involved.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations.
- Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
- Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.
- All responsibilities must be met in a rotating shift environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.
- Must be able to pass a background check to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card issued by the Transportation Security Administration and must maintain good standing status.
