POSITION OVERVIEW
The Mechanical Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and is a member of multi-disciplined crew responsible for all maintenance activities of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and regasification terminal. Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures are essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the following:
- Perform the duties of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal Maintenance Technician on a regularly scheduled shift, sometimes including overtime, holidays, weekends, and nights.
- Performs preventative, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting on all pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, etc.
- Works from drawings, sketches, machine operation and maintenance manuals, work order requests, and oral instructions to install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned maintenance duties.
- Tears down, replaces, repairs, installs, and assembles simple equipment parts, components, and accessories.
- Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage.
- Train on environmental safety, operations, and security procedures annually.
- Maintain the facility recognizing the environmental consequences of actions taken and striving for the highest levels of environmental and safety compliance.
- Operates mobile equipment to lift and transport materials including fork lifts and man-lifts.
- Record maintenance data and informs Maintenance Supervisor of potential problems and failures in a timely manner; Works with Maintenance Supervisor to expeditiously resolve problems and improve plant reliability and safety. Make recommendations to improve existing analyzer and measurement systems to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Perform highly skilled installation, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of pumps, compressors, motors, valves, filters, and other equipment.
- Collaborate with reliability and engineering to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data and support improvement recommendations.
- Perform all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge:
Must understand plant surroundings and can identify relevant equipment. Understand the physical properties of LNG. Possess basic knowledge of safe handling practices, governmental regulations and related technical and safety codes, standards, and reporting requirements. Knowledgeable of plant rules and guidelines regarding relevant equipment operations and certification requirements. In-depth knowledge of plant maintenance protocols and equipment diagnostics.
Skills:
- An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.
- Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues, compliance with policies and procedures are all essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.
- Able to follow directions and quickly formulate and effectively communicate questions if clarification of an assignment is required.
- Able to apply existing skills in new roles and/or environments.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer savvy, including Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude for learning new software applications and systems.
- Able to use key features of relevant software to perform job duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Education and Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Formal education in related technical or engineering discipline or related military training/experience is desirable.
- Craft Skills: Must be qualified in at least one of the following:
- Millwright
- Mechanical
- Training & Certifications: Complete all Company-provided training on the various types of equipment in LNG facility. Additionally, the following training curriculum is required:
- Utility maintenance, including air, water, sanitation, and nitrogen.
- Electrical power generation maintenance (SP LNG and CT LNG only).
- Ship unloading systems maintenance.
- Emergency Shut Down (EDS) systems.
- Fire and gas detection and suppression systems.
- Basic LNG plant operations, principles, and theories.
- Basic submerged combustion vaporizer maintenance.
- Basic machinery diagnostics.
- Basic LNG in-tank and ex-tank pump maintenance.
- Basic Boil Off Gas (BOG) and vapor return blower maintenance.
- Basic office applications and time-reporting procedures.
- Basic Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) applications.
- Basic storage tank maintenance
DIRECT REPORTS
There are no direct reports to this position; however, in addition to the three required craft skills, must display leadership and the potential for supervisory responsibility.
FREEDOM TO ACT
Requires supervision but must also use sound judgment and make good decisions.
WORK CONDITIONS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.
- Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height, and lift and move objects weighting up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
- Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
- Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.
- All responsibilities must be met in a call-out environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.
- Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
