Utah State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS; https://www.usu.edu/aggiewellness/mental-health) is seeking a Staff Therapist to serve as the Multicultural Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a collegial work environment that values collaboration, inclusion, and trust. This is a full-time, benefited, 12-month position on the USU-Logan campus. The preferred start date is August 1, 2024, but it is negotiable.
The Multicultural Specialist (Clinician I, II, or Psychologist) will have an emphasis on serving underserved and minoritized students. This position will also work closely with the CAPS Director to assist the center’s ongoing efforts to remove barriers for access, strengthen the center’s ability to serve all students, and create a strong sense of belonging for all center staff and trainees.
The Multicultural Specialist is expected to provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, supervision and training, outreach, single-session therapy, and triage consultations. While direct therapeutic services are not offered to staff or faculty, USU CAPS provide consultations to various departments, administrators, faculty, and staff across USU system in order to address and support the mental health of USU students. Providing supervision and training to undergraduate or graduate trainees is a possibility if desired. Various professional development opportunities will be available, and clinical supervision will be provided if needed for licensure.

Clinical services (50-60%) - May be adjusted based on other duties (e.g., training/supervision)
- Provide individual and group therapy, single-session therapy, initial triage consultation, intake, and crisis interventions.
Outreach services 10-15% - Provide outreach to minoritized student groups to help improve their access to services.
- Prepare for and provide outreach presentations and workshops.
- Serve on departmental, division, and university committees.
- Provide consultations for USU faculty, staff, and students.
Training services (5%)
- Assist the Director to organize professional development activities for the center staff to improve the centers’ ability to serve all students.
Administrative tasks (20-30%)
- Maintain timely and accurate record.
- Participate in administrative and professional activities (e.g., CAPS staff and division meetings, case conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited social work, counseling or other mental health related program; or a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or combined psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program.
- Clinical license to practice under supervision in Utah (e.g., CSW, ACMHC, AMFT, Psychology Resident).
- Experience in a university counseling setting and/or experience in areas strongly related to mental health needs of a college population (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety disorder, depressive disorders, personality disorders).
- Generalist base of knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy), (i.e., theories, processes, and elements of therapeutic change) and familiarity with developmental and other non-medical models of treatment and supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Clinical license to independently practice in Utah (e.g., LCSW, CMHC, MFT, Licensed Psychologist)
- Expertise related to addressing the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA+ students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first generation college students on a university campus.
- Experience in providing supervision.
- Experience in providing group therapy.
- Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops relevant to the campus community.
- Experience with psychoeducational assessment.
- Fluency in language other than English.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first-generation college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and cultural humility
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Word, PowerPoint).
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem solving, decision-making skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is part of USU's Division of Student Affairs. CAPS has been accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) since 1996.
