Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
This position supports and promotes an effective student-centered environment within the School of Nursing and Health Services by supporting faculty in the Skills and Simulation Labs, while also assisting the School's faculty and dean with the administrative duties associated with the Nursing and Health Programs. Depending upon the academic schedule, the position's focus may be entirely on the lab assistance, entirely on the administrative assistance, or a combination, as worked out with the Dean.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA) with three years of clinical practice experience or Bachelor in a health-related field with three years of clinical practice experience or five years of clinical practice experience in a related health occupation field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one-year experience in the educational setting
- Certified CPR instructor through American Heart Association
Other Information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Orient students to Skills and Simulation Lab and demonstrate proper procedures.
- Facilitate simulation by controlling simulation manikins per faculty directions.
- Maintain weekly, regularly scheduled, open lab hours.
- Assist faculty to ensure all items needed to teach lab class are available and ready for use.
- Assess and maintain skills and simulation equipment routinely for malfunctions and service needs.
- Set up and tear down equipment and items used for skills and simulation labs.
- Maintain and organize all lab equipment and supplies.
- Complete and reconcile supply orders.
- Dispose hazardous waste (i.e. sharps).
- Support the dean in maintaining records necessary for on-going accreditation for all Nursing and Health Services programs.
- Serve as a role model of professionalism in the practice setting.
- Attend orientations, staff meetings and faculty meetings as requested.
- Assist in the recruitment of students for all Health Services Programs.
- Collaborate with School Administrative Assistant in collecting, compiling, and calculating nursing admission applications.
- Assist department chair with rotation schedules.
- Maintain nursing students' files and databases.
- Assist with various projects and/or special events assigned by the Dean through faculty and/or her Administrative Assistant.
- Participate as needed in special department projects.
