Based in New York, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Houston, San Francisco or Los Angeles, the Staff Accountant, as a primary role, will be responsible for helping to manage partner distributions process, maintaining partner capital accounts, and responding to related partner inquiries. In addition, the Staff Accountant will be assisting with the firm’s wide tax compliance in the United States and foreign jurisdictions at federal, state, and local levels.
This role reports to the Partner Compensation Senior Manager and works closely with key personnel in various offices.
Responsibilities include:
- Calculate and prepare partner monthly and annual cash distributions, working closely with finance, tax, and IT departments to ensure effective and timely distribution process.
- Ensure proper tax withholdings are made for all partner distributions and handle any necessary tax reporting.
- Conduct reconciliations of monthly audit reports during distribution process.
- Work closely with the firm’s accounting and tax teams to ensure all financial data is accurately reported for book and tax purposes.
- Manage the Partner Compensation system, reconciling the system reporting to Partner Compensation schedules and the firm’s general ledger.
- Assist in managing partner inquiries, and requests from other groups and departments related to partners throughout the year.
- Assist with financial statement, tax, and compliance audits.
- Assist with non-periodic assignments related to Partner Compensation, capital, personal charges/taxes, income verifications, distribution forecasts, and other ad-hoc reporting as requested by management.
- Help to manage changes to partners’ direct deposit information
- Prepare tax calculations for partnership returns, partner K-1 Schedules, and income tax memos.
- Prepare partnership and nonresident partner estimated tax calculations.
- Maintain partners’ composite tax elections and related records.
- Prepare schedules and reports for the partnership’s various business taxes.
- Continue to think of ways to streamline workpapers and continuously improve to make process more efficient.

EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, tax, or finance, with law firm and partnership compensation experience preferred.
- General knowledge of partnership taxation and impact of tax accounting on Partner Compensation.

Compensation & Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $75-100k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
