Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is accountable directly to the Associate Director, Accounting with a goal of ensuring that financial transactions are processed in a complete, timely and accurate manner and in accordance with GAAP and Community of Hope’s policies and procedures.

Salary – Indeed provides its own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH’s range. The salary for this position starts in the low 50's.


Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processes vendor-related expenses ensuring that general operating expenses are allocated correctly for financial reporting and that internal controls have been followed daily.
  • Processes AMEX credit card transactions weekly, ensuring that expenses are allocated correctly for financial reporting and that internal controls have been followed.
  • Processes daily employee-related requests for payment / reimbursement including but not limited to final pays, and expense reimbursements ensuring that expenses are allocated correctly for financial reporting and that internal controls have been followed. Confirm that employee expenses are valid in accordance with the COH Employee Handbook.
  • Creates, maintains and reviews employee records, updating contact and payment information as needed between Paylocity and Business Central 365.
  • Assists with the RE/Accounting system reconciliation of donated contributions monthly if needed.
  • Enters sales invoices to record revenue monthly prior to finalization of close and works with the Finance staff to ensure contract revenue is accurately recorded monthly.
  • Works with the Benefits team members to reconcile monthly benefits invoices & payroll deductions to ensure accuracy. Proposes corrections/adjustments to be reviewed by the Benefits Coordinator for corrective memo.
  • Processes payroll monthly with the Payroll Specialist to keep up to date with changes/updates for payroll.
  • Communicates with staff on payroll related issues; including but not limited to researching and fielding questions related to missing or errors in paid wages. Participates in monthly New Hire Orientation as needed.
  • Attends staff, department, and other meetings as scheduled.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience required.
  • B.S. or B.A. or equivalent experience preferred, specifically in accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player, highly organized and able to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple tasks daily.
  • Extremely discrete and able to keep highly confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and outside parties.
  • Must be PC proficient.
  • Experience with Business Central 365 or other accounting software applications preferred; Microsoft Excel, and Word, Teams required.

Community of Hope is a mission-driven, innovative, and rapidly growing nonprofit. For over 40 years, we have provided healthcare, housing, and supportive services for under-resourced, underserved and people experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we provide medical, dental, emotional wellness, and care coordination services for the whole family at three locations in DC. Community of Hope also strongly emphasizes maternal and child health, with midwifery practice and the only free-standing birth center in DC. In 2020, Community of Hope provided about 28,400 medical visits, 7,000 dental visits, and 10,000 behavioral health visits for about 11,000 patients. Community of Hope provides community walk-in COVID testing and COVID vaccines. Community of Hope is also one of the largest providers in DC of housing and support services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
