Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the reduction of company’s financial waste and increasing profits. Duties will include assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, account reconciliations, cost reviews, accounts receivable, and some accounts payable.
The Staff Accountant will also assist bookkeepers with more complex accounting functions as well as assist in development of department processes and cost reports.
Requirements:Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries, account analyses, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with month end close process.
- Monitor and work with sales to ensure timely collection of receivables and enact solutions to improve collections on past due receivables.
- Daily AR invoicing and cash receipts.
- Perform daily inventory reconciliation report and identify any discrepancies.
- Work with operations on inventory and obsolescence management.
- Support accounts payable bookkeepers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry.
- Generate reports and analyze findings.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- File sales tax forms monthly and quarterly.
- Assist in preparation and documentation for external auditors.
- Provide back up to AP.
- Perform all other duties as assigned and in the best interest of the company or as directed by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience required. Five (5) years related experience.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Strong written and verbal skills. Strong interpersonal, customer service skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and general public.
- Proficient with large, automated accounting systems. Must possess ability to work with varied computer application software. MS Word and Excel knowledge.
- Ability to communicate with others to exchange information both orally and in writing.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15. May require the ability to obtain DOD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding and experience in all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position is regularly exposed to the following conditions:
- Manufacturing, warehouse and office environments
- While working near moving equipment, mechanical parts and lift trucks; must have the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
- May be exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.
Must have the following physical abilities:
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
