This position will manage the federal and state income tax return compliance process including, but not limited to, filing of tax return extensions, payment of taxes, and preparation of workpapers and tax returns. The Senior Tax Accountant will take the lead in working with other members of the Starkey Finance Department to gather information and analyze transactions for preparation of Starkey's various tax returns. The Senior Tax Accountant will also prepare and review tax provision workpapers needed for financial accounting audits. Additionally, the Senior Tax Accounting will directly interact with taxing authorities in responding to notices and information document requests during tax audits. The person in this position supports the Director of Tax and Senior Manager - International Tax on special tax projects, research and analysis.
Approach and Deployment (What to Do & How to Do It)
Manage the Global Tax Compliance Process
- Prepare and review work papers supporting book/tax differences, foreign information reporting (i.e. Forms 5471, 8858, etc.), foreign tax credit, R&D tax credit and other areas.
- Research and analysis of changes in tax law and application of tax law to changes in business activity.
- Extensive involvement with tax preparation software and generating tax returns.
- Manage and prepare calculations for quarterly estimated tax and extension payments.
- Prepare schedules of apportionment and federal-state differences for state income tax returns.
Preparation of Starkey domestic year-end tax provision and tax disclosures for financial statements
- Prepare and support tax-related financial statement disclosures.
- Prepare schedules supporting deferred tax assets and liabilities, income taxes payable, income tax reserves and tax expense.
- Answer questions from independent auditors.
- Analyze detailed reports and reconcile to general ledger.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with Company policy as needed.
Research tax implications of completed and proposed business transactions.
Prepare responses to taxing authority notices.
Interact with tax auditors to respond to information document requests and respond to questions.
Results - Performance Measures (How to Measure Success)
- Timely, accurate and complete tax return documentation and tax return preparation.
- Prepare tax provision work papers and account reconciliations in accordance with timelines established by Corporate Controller; timely respond to queries from independent auditors.
- Respond to requests from taxing authorities.
- Respond to requests for information on completed or proposed transactions.
Other Duties (Non-Measurable)
- Interact with personnel in Finance Department to obtain financial statement information
- Interact with personnel outside of Finance Department for information relating to tax issues and tax audits
- Support Starkey Employee Corporate and/or Department Guidelines.
- Check and verify quality.

Job Requirements
Minimum education, certification and experience requirements:
Education:
Four-year degree in Accounting or degree in another area and relevant work experience; MBT/MST preferred
Experience:
5 or more years of tax experience
