Sr Software Engineer - Solutions Architect
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The successful Software Engineer candidate will be part of the KBR team supporting the Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) Team working on prototype BD and KM systems for Department of Defense (DoD) test ranges and various acquisition programs. Additionally, this position will be leveraged by the Digital Engineering and Cloud teams as needed. We are actively seeking a highly qualified Solutions Architect with an active Secret clearance, specializing in DoD Environments, Cloud Architecture, Software Development, Software Assurance and Digital Engineering - Digital Forensics would also be a plus. This role is essential for developing and/or integrating secure cloud-based solutions and applications for projects requiring adherence to the highest DoD security standards, including the Risk Management Framework (RMF). In addition to supporting the Big Data Team the successful candidate will work closely with other TRMC teams to include but not limited to: Digital Engineering, Cloud Architecture, Cyber Security and Software Development to demonstrate to our DoD range stakeholders the 'art of the possible'. The successful candidate will support our customers, users and DoD stakeholders with securely integrating the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC) suite of tools and capabilities into their environment. This will require a detailed understanding of the government owned and developed Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation & Test Analysis Suite (CHEETAS) framework as well as other JMETC portfolio offerings such as: the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) and Serengeti. Experience with Kubernetes, Cameo, various cloud offerings such as Azure and AWS as well as DoD RMF processes is a must. This job will require interaction with DoD Test and Evaluation (T&E) Range users of all career levels to discuss requirements and needs. This requires the ability to effectively communicate at both a technical level with developers, analysts' and engineers across multiple disciplines while also being able to convey information at the senior leadership programmatic level. The successful candidate must have a strong DoD background with excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work with individuals and teams of varying skillsets across a multitude of disciplines and experience levels. The ideal candidate will be adept at collecting and documenting use cases and requirements from stakeholders located at various DoD T&E ranges and then work with team members to satisfy those requirements by either leveraging existing capabilities within the JMETC portfolio, developing new capabilities to fulfill the documented requirements or handing the requirements off to other JMETC team members to develop. The successful candidate will have the ability to guide others through the best way to integrate with the TRMC JMETC portfolio whether that integration is focused on Digital Engineering Models, Big Data Analytical Tools, TRMC Cloud Offerings, TENA, JMN Networking or a combination of all of the above and others. When not supporting integration efforts the successful candidate will potentially be assigned software development tasks in support of CHEETAS or remote event support tasks. Other duties may include but are not limited to: software development, remote event support, documentation, cloud and software configuration efforts, software testing, prototyping, configuration of servers and cloud environments, advising others JMETC groups and helping end users.
Only Senior Software Engineers with 15+ years of DoD experience will be considered. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and capable of working independently with little supervision / direct tasking. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams at various levels of experience physically located in every time zone nationwide, must have excellent communication skills and will be expected to become proficient at providing support to assist customers with installation, configuration and troubleshooting of the CHEETAS suite of tools and the underlying ecosystems which CHEETAS requires to function. This position is anticipated to require minimal travel but will require attendance to the TRMC JTEX workgroup meetings 2-3 times a year where the successful candidate will be expected to brief, ability to brief in a public environment is a must. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a US citizen with an Active or Current Secret Clearance required - Top Secret preferred.
  • This position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, and 15+ years' of progressively more advanced technical experience within a DoD environment - preferably a Test and Evaluation or Research and Development environment. Advanced degrees may be substituted for years of experience on a year-for-year basis. Candidates without the requisite 15+ years' of DoD experience will not be considered.
  • Previous experience must include five (5) years of dedicated software development work within a DoD environment to include database and server configuration work as well.
  • Previous experience must include at least three (3) to five (5) years of Cloud configuration and architecture work. Preferably in support of a DoD environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels, encompassing written, verbal, and face to face interactions.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Well organized and able to work under pressure.
  • A driven individual who exemplifies a 'can-do' attitude and is happy to go the extra mile for users.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are desired, as the Software Engineer will be in frequent contact with end users, various project technical leads and be taking direction from various contract & government leads.
  • Proficiency using at least one high-level programming language (C, C#, C++, Python, etc.)
  • Proficiency with web application technologies, such as JBoss, Apache Tomcat, NodeJS, etc.
  • Experience with configuration of Cloud environments within DoD is a must. Ideal candidates will have experience standing a new Cloud instance up from the ground level, securing it, documenting the process, successfully obtaining a DoD Approval to Operate (ATO) and supporting end users of the Cloud environment after deployment.
  • Experience with developing containers and micro-services desired.
  • Experience interfacing with external development teams is a must.
  • Experience with some of the following: Kubernetes, Docker, Helm Charts, Cameo, Hadoop, Cloudera, Hortonworks, Apache- Storm or Spark, HBase, YARN, big-data analytics, semantic-web (RDF, OWL), Hive, Elastic Search, MS SQL Server Big Data, and graph-databases.
  • Experience using Python, R scripting, and SQL.
  • Experience with various virtualization platforms (e.g., VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with various orchestration engines (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, Tanzu, etc.) is desired.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns and Agile Development methodologies.
  • Experience with DoD's Digital Transformation efforts and Digital Engineering toolsets is desired.
  • Use of advanced techniques for Digital Engineering Modeling and Simulation a plus.
  • Knowledge of Distributed Testing and Training a plus.
  • Experience with a version control system (e.g., Git), issue/problem tracking system (e.g., Jira), team collaboration software (e.g., Confluence), continuous integration environments (e.g., Jenkins), cloud environment (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure), and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMWare).
  • The Software Engineer must have the ability to work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach to solve challenging problems.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA), the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC), Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation & Test Analysis Suite (CHEETAS) framework and Distributed Testing and Training is a plus.
  • Experience working with major DoD Acquisition programs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to DoD Cybersecurity policies is required.
