General Description: Sinopec Houston Tech has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Developer in the Finite Element Analysis/Method (FEM) to develop geoscience software. The candidate will be responsible for developing the FEM software for geoscience/geomechanics applications to support Sinopec’s upstream projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Will develop innovative 3D FEM software coupled stress-strain (geomechanics) with pore pressures and fluid flow.
• Will develop models, efficient numerical algorithms, and software for geomechanical modeling, stress-strain perturbations owing to drilling and production, hydraulic fracturing, and reservoir development.
• Will perform linear and non-linear elastoplastic FEM analysis on rock formations and geological structures.
• Will design and program pre- and post-processing codes and user interfaces for the FEM solver.
• Will design, develop, and maintain software and assist in software validation.
• Will actively contribute to ensure and maintain source code quality.
• Will create and maintain software documentation.
• Will share expertise throughout the team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
• Strong and proven programming skills in 2 or more of the following languages: C++, C, Java, Python, Fortran etc.
• Expert level knowledge and working experience in numerical or mathematical simulation and software development (e.g., FEM, FDM).
• Working experience in High Performance Computing, e.g., parallel computing, NVIDIA CUDA, or other GPU coding.
• Practical and hand-on experience in all phases of software development lifecycle (plan, design, develop, test, release, maintain and support) in Windows and Linux environments.
• Design and implementation of software architecture for Finite Element simulations.
• Organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Working experience in numerical simulation and software development in the oil and gas industry, in geomechanical, geological, or geotechnical engineering is preferred.
• Support and training of simulation users.
• Self-starter and self-discipline with multi-tasking abilities to meet deadlines.
• Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential IP of the company.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university in Mechanics (including Geomechanics, Rock Mechanics, Physics), Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field involving coding.
• 5+ years of working experience in software programming of numerical simulation (e.g., FEM, FDM, or other numerical methods).
• Must have 3+ years of working experience in CUDA or other GPU coding.
• Some domestic and international travel may be required (normally < 10 %).
• Must have current U.S. work authorization.
