JOB LOCATION: Association office located in the Wellmark YMCA in downtown Des Moines and supports all the branches of the association.
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Standard work week, but will occasionally work evening or weekend hours to accommodate activities such as meetings and events.
SALARY: $56,100 - $64,000 annualized
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: February 27, 2024 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
POSITION SUMMARY:The YMCA (Y) Achievers Sr. Director is responsible for the delivery of a community-wide Achievers Program with a goal to positively impact academic success and knowledge of post-secondary education options among targeted populations. Positive identity and life skills development are also program goals. This position will provide the necessary leadership to recruit, organize and direct youth participants, adult instructors and volunteers, and community leadership volunteers serving on a program Advisory Committee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Lead the development and management of the Y Achievers program achieving college preparedness and career awareness objectives.
  2. Ensure programs complies with all applicable operation standards, and compliance with state and local regulations; evaluate and review program to ensure quality and safety.
  3. Manage planned budget and information for assigned area to ensure revenue and expenses are consistent with approved budget plan.
  4. Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Conduct marketing and promotion for assigned program, coordinating with association office staff to ensure all marketing meets association and brand requirements.
  6. Develop and direct recruitment strategies to ensure engagement of teen and adult participants.
  7. Manage program staff within the operational needs and budget, providing for the overall training and development of the program team. Evaluate staffing needs and programs are staff appropriately.
  8. Coordinate the development of an Achievers Advisory Committee and sub-committees, as needed.
  9. Direct all Y Achievers special events, fundraising events, or scholarship campaigns.
  10. Develop and maintains relationships with current and potential funding sources, both private and public, and secure ongoing sponsorship and write grants.
  11. Provide hands-on leadership coordinating teen training workshops, college tours, work place tours, career fairs and other enrichment programming and initiatives.
  12. Present publically to promote the program and represent Y Achievers at appropriate meeting and local, regional and national events.
  13. Create a work environment that exemplifies the Y's culture and how we show up and supports ownership and accountability for staff members.
  14. Attend association staff meetings as required.
  15. Perform additional duties as required.
  16. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the organization as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in education or related field or equivalent work experience.
  2. Minimum of four years in related program development and/or program management experience. Youth and teen programming such as educational and personal development, college preparedness or workforce readiness a plus.
  3. Experience in fiscal management and financial development, community relations, and volunteer development.
  4. Supervisory experience and/or team leadership.
  5. Demonstrated computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  6. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA - prior to first day and maintained afterwards.
  7. Intro to the Y's Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to first day
  8. YMCA Team Leader certification preferred; or must achieve within two years from start.
  9. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards:
  10. Completion of trainings and/or certifications, as required by supervisor and/or the YMCA.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand, walk and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with arms and hands, and lift up to ten pounds of weight. Vision abilities required by this job includes close and distance vision. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in an aquatic/pool environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. This position usually works in an office and youth development oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. This position works a standard work week, but additionally will occasionally work evening, weekend, and additional hours to ensure facility coverage and accommodate activities such as special events and representing the organization at community events.
