Sr. Manager, Insights - Esports

The Esports team is focused on delivering amazing fan experiences through our global events and regional competitions. Our professional and semi-professional competitive tiers in League of Legends, VALORANT and other Esports involve thousands of players and hundreds of organizations competing every week.

The Insights discipline helps empower Rioters' decision-making to be more data-informed, and in this role, you will lead an analytics team to help esports to ensure that product strategies and decisions are grounded in data, to lead to positive outcomes for both fans and Riot. You will be the analytics lead for esports who helps drive the pillar to understand the global esports audience, what opportunities we look to get involved in, and the strategy for sports across our portfolio. This role will report to the Director of Insights and will be responsible for developing a strong analytics presence both inside and outside of esports.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team that conducts technical data analyses to identify strategic bets and opportunities for sports within global esports 
• Partner with esports product and functional teams to build technical analyses/insights and infrastructure frameworks to inform the strategic direction of the esports team, and oversee issues relating to data, analytics, forecasting, and reporting on behalf of global esports 
• Lead key conversations with Directors+ on opportunities based on the dashboards, insights, analyses, and opportunities that your team creates, and help teams to act upon and implement next steps as identified by your team
• Partner with the Senior Manager, Research to implement cross-team insights that help move esports towards or identify key objectives at a global level 
• Help esports to evaluate and implement new metrics and types of analyses, including leading a team that identifies global gaming audiences and the audiences of Riot Games to inform portfolio and product strategy across all of our esports, collects and analyzes internal and external data sets to better understand our audience and their behaviors, and creates strategic analyses to inform pillar-wide bets
• Lead individual contributors to create key initiatives that support esports development and new opportunities using analytical modeling and rigorous methods to improve data usage across esports 
• Partner with executive leadership on a regular basis to identify opportunities from goals, initiatives, and tracking of esports products across both insights and financial metrics 
• Serve as an analytics knowledge center inside and outside of esports by partnering on the craft across pillars and helping to train and mentor reports

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Psychology, Economics, Mathematics or a related discipline plus 10+ years of experience in data analytics, business strategy, or related experience (an advanced degree can account for up to 2 years of experience)
• Team management of technical analysts for 5+ years 
• Experience leading strategy development for a product or business in a leadership capacity and helping to operationalizing that strategy via ownership or advisory
• Excellent teamwork, team leadership, communication, collaboration and stakeholder management and trusted to operate independently regardless of structure and to have owned larger problems/projects/workstreams across multiple teams and complex environments 
• Ability to independently code and create complex queries in SQL, including joins and large, ambiguous data sets, and to train team members or help fill in technical gaps 
• Ability to conduct technical analyses requiring regressions, correlations, and statistical knowledge independently as needed

Desired Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience working directly with senior executives or clients 
• Knowledge with more advanced statistical methods for data analysis (k-means, Pandas library, factor analyses)
• Ability to conduct technical analyses using more advanced coding such as Python or R 
• Experience working in gaming, entertainment, or sports industries
