SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Senior Manager of Enterprise Monitoring team (Cloud Monitoring Portfolio) implements End-to-End Observability from ingesting metrics, logs, and APM, to configuring dashboards and alerting solutions for Amtrak DT Applications and provides visibility and insights into all tiers and components deployed in a multi-tier hybrid IT environment comprising IaaS (AWS, Azure), PaaS (Mulesoft, Salesforce, etc.,), SaaS, and data centers. Also provides operations and maintenance (O&M) support for end‐users, applications, infrastructure, platforms, and network services, serving as an escalation point for Cloud Monitoring portfolio. The Senior Manager plays a critical role, as a thought leader, in evaluating and implementing Observability and Monitoring Methodologies and Frameworks using industry best practices. Senior Manager is also responsible for building technical talent required to build and maintain the Enterprise Observability platform.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Make recommendations and influence the current work streams to enhance the Platform Architecture. Work with service providers to ensure that their technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy.
  • Lead the development and analysis of Observability Tools/Solutions selection strategies. Develop RFP's, Review RFP responses from Vendors. Evaluate SaaS solutions such as Dynatrace, Datadog, and New Relic.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture team and other key stakeholders to design and implement new Enterprise Observability Platform/Framework and to establish Logging and Monitoring Standards consistent with DT Tech Ops SLO’s and SLA’s.
  • Build technical talent in the organization to support new Observability platform through training, hiring, and engaging professional services.
  • As a Senior Manager, lead, motivate, mentor, and appraise the team to meet or exceed organization’s performance goals and individual development goals.
  • Provide technical expertise across business functions. Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies
  • Support Amtrak's mission of company-wide Sustainability Program to increase awareness and integrate better practices. Support and foster Diversity & Inclusion and Amtrak values - Do the Right Thing, Put Customers First, and Excel Together.
  • This role requires working outside normal business hours on occasion.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent plus 11+ years of relevant work experience, 
  • Proven working experience and exposure to industry best practices in implementing Observability solutions using SaaS platforms in enterprise scale Hybrid IT Infrastructure, Platforms and Applications, with multi-region deployments and cross-region disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Proven track record in building and managing IT Development and Operations teams.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have experience in writing SOW’s and RFP’s.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the Observability tools such as AppDynamics, ELK, Datadog or Dynatrace and New Relic.
  • Working knowledge of Confluent/AWS MSK, AWS and Azure cloud native monitoring tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with Infra / Network / Application teams to collect monitoring requirements and implement optimized solutions.
  • Experience in Programming or scripting languages would be plus.

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.
  • Training or project delivery experience using SAFe.

 


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

 

The salary/hourly range is $146,160 - $189,430. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
