What to Expect What You’ll Do What You’ll Bring
Drive Systems owns detailed in-house design of structural castings for all Tesla drive units. These parts are high complexity and long lead time, with a specialized supply base. The Structures Launch Engineer will be the central sustaining project owner for all Drive Systems castings and structural parts. Their core responsibility will be managing late-stage execution for new product launches, ongoing production design improvements, and capacity expansion projects. The role will be responsible for tracking and organizing actions across global casting suppliers and managing resource prioritization across all active projects. The Structures Launch Engineer will also generate and drive new projects for cost and mass reduction and reliability improvements.
- Own DSE casting supplier relationships including new supplier sourcing and improvement projects
- Drive supplier launch diligence and ongoing capability improvements
- Work with factory planning and global sourcing teams to prevent or resolve any build plan shortfalls related to castings
- Drive and prioritize improvement projects for cost, mass, reliability, and manufacturability alongside crossfunctional teams on multiple continents
- Support prototype sourcing and logistics for early-stage program needs and improvement projects
- Document lessons learned and extend new improvements and best practices across projects and into new launches
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in high volume die casting or similar industry and strong understanding of manufacturing, assembly, and testing requirements
- Extensive background in sourcing and project management for large die castings or other technically complex, long lead time products
- Proactive, highly organized, and detail oriented, with strong technical communication ability - able to drive improvements across a global interdisciplinary team
