The Senior Indirect Tax Accountant is primarily responsible for the preparation of the Company’s Indirect Tax (sales/use tax, excise tax, property tax, GST/HST) filing obligations and assisting the Indirect Tax Manager and Tax Director with other duties as required.
Essential Functions- Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

- Assists with the transition of property tax function in house and completing move toward a paperless environment.
- Reviews contracts and assists operating units with determining and paying appropriate sales/use taxes and issue resolution with customers.
- May require assisting with state business licenses and other registrations.
- Prepares and files all required compliance reports including sales/use, property, excise, and GST/HST.
- Prepares tax account reconciliations and accruals.
- Assists with property tax, state sales and use tax and Canadian GST/HST audits.
- Responds to correspondence from taxing jurisdictions.
- Communicates with various departments within the Company to gather required information.
- Assists with the preparation and storage of exemption certificates.
- Stays current on relevant tax law changes and sales/use tax rate changes.
- Prepares detailed reporting and analysis to Indirect Tax Manager.
- Utilizes internal and external resources (such as Checkpoint) to perform research and document tax treatment of various transactions.
- Performs additional related duties, as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar field required.
- CPA and/or Master’s degree in Tax Accounting would be a plus.
- 4+ years Indirect Tax Accounting experience in either Public or Industry required; experience with property and gross receipts taxes is beneficial.
- Excellent organizational skills with orientation to detail and strong analytical ability.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), tax research tools such as RIA Checkpoint, and Adobe Acrobat DC.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels within the organization, independently and in teams.
