Weekly Hours: 40
Role Number:200508021
Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish. Are you passionate about reducing environmental impacts through innovative designs? Do you have experience with electronics system design or semiconductor environmental analysis and carbon footprinting and want to use it to affect real- world change? Are you excited working at the cutting edge of technology and seeing it make its way into products at scale? Apple is seeking a candidate to help us design world-leading products with lower environmental impacts. We use a combination of detailed measurements, comprehensive modeling, and targeted engagements with design teams to drive strategic and relevant environmental initiatives. Our methods are rooted in life cycle assessment (LCA) and cover a range of fields within science, technology, and engineering. We are determined to uncover where impacts occur within our products and product supply chains, find opportunities to mitigate those impacts, and drive initiatives to reduce those impacts. You will help us drive reductions in the ICs and semiconductors we use alongside hardware and technology teams to reduce IC carbon footprint as part of Apple’s ambitious 2030 goals.
Key Qualifications
Key Qualifications
  • Experience developing process-based LCA models for engineering and/or manufacturing processes in the semiconductor space, such at CVD, Etch, Lithography, and epitaxy.
  • Knowledge of silicon design first principles and fundamentals in CMOS, NAND, DRAM, or imaging technologies, from architecture through fabrication.
  • Knowledge of product-level electrical system design, understanding how various components work together as a system. Understand the role of SOC, PMUs, Wireless/RF IC’s and how product features drive requirements for silicon-level design.
  • Design to knowledge of semiconductor component production (CMOS, NAND, DRAM, packaging, printed circuit boards, etc.), raw material production (silicon, steel, plastics, etc.), mechanical part production (machining, stamping, injection molding, etc.) and/or industrial engineering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of with LCA methods, modeling approaches, data, and applications. Experience with one or more professional LCA software packages (e.g., GaBi, SimaPro) including architecting and running complex, multi-parameter models.
  • Familiarity with environmental indicators and impacts, particularly with respect to carbon, water, energy, and resources.
  • Scientific computing skills, including data analysis, visualization, and working with large datasets. Programming experience with Python, R, or similar is preferred; advanced spreadsheet capability required.
  • Comfortable developing assumptions, working and making decisions with limited and imperfect data, and quantifying and identifying sources of uncertainty.

Description
Description
As a member of our team, you’ll have a focus on emerging technologies across products, guiding Apple’s hardware and technology engineering teams to minimize environmental impacts from the start. Your work will help identify critical design features, highlight process hotspots, aid material selection, and inform design rules from the very beginning of product and technology conception. Projects architecting early LCA models to develop environmental overviews and guidance, and sharing these findings through powerful visualizations. We are interested in a wide array of candidates, including those from a variety of backgrounds - especially those with technical expertise in VLSI, all aspects of IC Design from the block through system integration, Fab process design or optimization, and high volume ICs. If you’re looking to take your career in a new direction to minimize the environmental impact of these wonderful devices, we’d love to hear from you.
Education & Experience
Education & Experience
BS degree required; MS and PhD degrees welcome; engineering background strongly preferred. 7+ years of relevant experience
