Job Overview:
This position is for a Senior Plant Engineer supporting Linde's Southeast (SEUS) Enclave HyCO facilities producing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and may include methanol and formaldehyde.The position is based in Geismar, Louisiana.The successful candidate will report to the SEUS Technical Manager Director.
The Senior Plant Engineer will provide day-to-day technical leadership and direction for the enclave facilities with emphasis on process safety, plant reliability, energy efficiency, environmental compliance and operational consistency. In addition, the Senior Plant Engineer will coordinate technical resources to assist operations in production and/or maintenance activities at all enclave locations. The Senior Plant Engineer will interface with various functional groups including Operations, Safety & Environmental Services (S&ES), Maintenance, Reliability, Project Engineering, Process Engineering, Process Controls, and Process Safety, as well as operating teams at other global HyCO facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Champion and promote a strong process safety culture.
- Provide process safety stewardship in areas of operating procedures, operating/technical manuals, critical safety systems, management of change (MOC), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), process hazard analysis (PHA), layers of protection analysis (LOPA), incident investigations, audits and assessments, alert compliance, operations training, alarm management, P&ID updates, and action item follow-up.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and engage appropriate resources to implement solutions.
- Conduct and evaluate equipment analyses - including (but not limited to): steam methane reformers, methane wash cold boxes, other process equipment performance, amine solution quality and boiler water chemistry.
- Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and drive results in plant efficiency, process safety and reliability.
- Provide leadership during plant and equipment startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations (RCA / RCI).
- Assist the plant leadership team with basic personnel safety fundamentals including safety meeting participation, ACMS compliance, HWC, HWP and CSE functions.
- Provide technical expertise to plant operations and maintenance technicians.
- Identify, develop, and deliver training in appropriate technical areas to support operator and engineering certification.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP's), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Site-Specific Operating Procedures (SSOP's), and Engineering Standards. Initiate reviews and updates as needed.
- Drive the implementation of best practices and operational consistency.
- Propose and manage small capital projects.
- Lead or participate in productivity initiatives including Six Sigma and Cost Reduction.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.

- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical).
- 3-5+ years combined experience in engineering and/or operations roles in chemical, petrochemical or related industry.
- Must have strong technical skills.
- Must have a positive attitude, be willing to quickly adapt to changing situations, have strong communications skills, and a strong will to build and maintain productive relationships across departmental lines.
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently as well as to lead and participate on cross-functional teams.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
- Must be detail-oriented with an ability and desire to persevere.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Must be able and willing to travel to facilities within the region, and also make occasional trips to other domestic regions and office locations.
- Must be willing to carry a laptop computer and cell phone for use during off hours as needed.
- Must be able and willing to adapt to a work schedule that coincides with plant operational needs.
- Must also be able and willing to work for extended periods of time in an operating plant under various environmental conditions.
- Must also be able and willing to work inside of confined spaces and at elevated levels.
