Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a key team member for the Enterprise Systems Division team. The Sr. Database Administrator is a senior role on our database administration team, tasked with modernization and transformation of our MS SQL Server ecosystem using industry best practices to leverage on-premise, hybrid, and cloud technologies. This position enjoys working remotely with minimal in-office days required each month. As part of the Enterprise Systems Division, you will participate in supporting the data needs of the entire county government enterprise and use your skills to advance our SQL Server environment to the next level. Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience in a multi-server SQL Server enterprise supporting 24/7 operations and be adept at presenting ideas, meeting project goals, and advising on improving existing and future system architecture. In addition, excellent communication skills and, extensive technical knowledge of SQL Server 2016-2022 including Reporting Services, SSAS, SSIS, and replication are required. Experience with hybrid cloud environments and data warehouse architecture, maintenance, and implementation is preferred.
- Monitor day to day operations and overall performance of SQL server environment and systems. Manage the environment using tools such as SSMS, Microsoft SQL Backup, third-party tools, and custom scripts.
- Develop and maintain database management dashboards and reports reflecting trend analysis; advise management of required upgrades or replacement of current hardware or database version releases.
- Assist in the planning and future development of databases and database architecture including migrations to hybrid and cloud environments; confer with primary system stakeholders to determine, develop, and implement required upgrades, modifications, adjustments, or replacements of current hardware or software.
- Manage change within the SQL environment.
- Ensure and maintain data security and integrity through queries and scripting with backup, archive and recovery processes; conduct or coordinate data cleanup efforts; troubleshoot technical problems related to the delivered software applications.
- Prepare, maintain, and implement procedures for disaster recovery with backup, archive and recovery processes; perform database file restoration, prepare application security reports.
- Install, configure and administer new third party vendor database and application program products; design, size, and install tables within the context of the database and platform on which it operates.
- Provide technical assistance and training as necessary to support staff and contractors in the development, testing and implementation of Information Systems databases and applications.
- Work closely with vendors to maintain, monitor and improve database management system performance and space requirements.
- Develop and maintain related documentation; formulate and enforce standards for data management, including an archiving schedule.
Relational database design, structure, operating principles and characteristics of programming and software installation database management principles and techniques, including cloud and hybrid environments;
Database modeling principles and procedures;
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 to 2022 database structure, operating principles and characteristics;
Database tools for administering these databases;
The principals and practices of data security, integrity, backup and recovery processes;
Techniques used in troubleshooting database problems and finding solutions to resolve the problems; The methods and techniques of systems analysis and design; research methods and report preparation, various software and support applications;
Support of software and applications used by county departments;
General knowledge of setup and administration of Microsoft Windows servers;
The use of personal computer and servers;
the operational characteristics of local and wide area network protocols and components;
Ability to develop and lead technical projects; and
Experience with third party system tools used in managing SQL-server databases. Experience with Idera Diagnostic Manager, Idera SQL Safe, MS SharePoint, Laserfiche Document and Records Management are desired but county is prepared to support qualified candidates;

- A Bachelor's Degree or four (4) years' experience in computer science, or related field; AND
- A minimum of five (5) years of advanced database design and administration experience.
